Note: If you are wondering where Rob Grant is....well not to fret. He's on a temporary hiatus and will be back.

This is our 3rd song of the year so far. It's a driving classic rocker called Lightfighter that sounds like it was transported right out of the 1970's into 2012. Gary does some great guitar work with nice harmony guitar riffs and a hot solo. DrC's B3 is still smokin' from the excellent keys he's placed in this song. Me....I get the music, write some lyric, find a melody, and sing it to the song. If you hear a little Uriah Heep influence here that's fine by us, we heard it also, lol.

About the lyric: It's a story of an imaginary group of warriors called Lightfighters that are more than imaginary. It's also a tale of a young man that was selected to become a Lighfighter based on his charater and bravery.

Alright......the first Rayon Vert song of 2012! Gary sent this song idea over and it sat for a few months while we all tended to personal stuff and weathered though the holidays but once we got on it the song came together quickly. RV is back at it and ready to roll out some more prog rock tunes and who knows what else we will come up with? Maybe some different styles are on the horizon..........

About the song:

We seem to be on a song a month schedule. Who's The Winner is the third completed Rayon Vert song in as many months. I think that's pretty good given the complexity of the songs, all of our busy schedules, and considering we live thousands of miles from one another.

About the lyric:

This set of lyric is a recognition of sorts to Gerry Rafferty who passed away January 4th, 2011 from liver failure. 63 is way too young to die. He was a great songwriter with a great voice.

This is Rayon Vert's first song out of the gates after a 5 month group layoff. The pause was due to many things....like busy lives and each doing our own musical work.... but it certainly wasn't a lack of desire, inspiration, or energy on our parts. I think you might hear some of that pent up Rayon Vert energy released in this song. I contacted everyone in November and asked if we were ready to rock 'n roll once again. I got a resounding yes so here we are with our first on the list of a few back logged songs. Gary sent this nearly completed demo song to us all for our thoughts and we enthusiastically went to work on it. Gary's guitar playing and his song ideas in general still amazes the heck out of me/us. Rob's bass is just as solid as ever and it holds down the fort with thundering conviction. DrC's keyboard skills go without saying....we all know he rocks but DrC seems to know where and how to place them for maximum effect. Plus his production, mixing, and mastering skills just keep getting better! Me? Well I have the easy part...I just write the lyric and sing them...the most difficult part for me is delivering a vocal that matches the feel of the song.

About the lyric: It's about the confusion generated from misunderstandings that we all experience once in a while. This causes a wandering or searching of the mind trying to figure out what or why something happened......hence The Wayfarer.

I think we all hit our groove with this song but you, the listeners, will be the ones to say yes or no........ We hope you like it!

About the song: Rob presented this song idea to the Rayon Vert members and we all embraced it...we heard the potential! As with many of the ideas that gets tossed to the group, this began at one place and ended in another as the Rayon Vert metamorphosis took place. Rob's original idea had an acoustic guitar rhythm and the song's overall tone was not as heavy as it ended up but it had those progressive rock elements built in that comes so naturally in Rob's writing. Rob had the bass chops down as always but we all know Rob is also a well rounded musician that includes keys and guitar.

About the song:

Time Traveler is quite a journey of a proggy song. It's more than 10 minutes in length and has an unusual chord structure with some cool tempo changes that will hold your interest throughout. You'll hear some excellent keys and drum programming from DrC, very creative and tastily placed guitars by Gary, and I've said this many times but Rob's bass playing and the structure/patterns he uses are never in the box which gives the song a great foundation. My melody and vocal ideas? Well....I just followed the unusual chord structure and this is what came about.

About the song: Gary sent this song out to the rest of us for consideration several months ago. We were busy finishing up our State of the Union Cd plus working on some new songs for cd #2 so it sat for a while. As you'll hear, Destiny, heads in a different direction than previous Rayon Vert songs.......it's more to the classic rock side of the road and it's a ballad but fear not, we haven't lost sight of our proggressive rock genes. They are just in the wash at the moment, lol. Destiny is a nice diversion and we think it came out great but we'll let the listeners judge for themselves.

This is a, make you move, fast paced, rocker that DrC has come up with. The song contains some of the best organ soloing I've heard in quite some time. Check it out!

Gary's guitar work in this is excellent! I think it would even turn Richie Blackmore's head around.

Rob keeps the song together with his always solid bass playing. There's nothing average about Rob's skills on the bass at all and he gets to shine some here!

Farrell - What can I say about vocal my contributions? Well, I was challenged just to keep pace with this wild rocker.

About the song Rayon Vert: All bands (even internet ones) need to write a song named after them, lol. So just as the classic greats like Black Sabbath, Bad Company, Iron Maiden, and Bad Religion have done, Rayon Vert has followed their trend with the creation of Rayon Vert....the song. We've tried to put some extra power into this production which you'll hear in Gary's lightening quick, yet tasteful, guitar work, DrC's equally tasty and speed of light keys work, Rob's impressive and thunderous bass. I've also tried to put a little extra desire and feel into my vocals. We think we hit the mark but you, the listener, will have to be the judge of that.

About the song: Rob presented this song to the other Rayon Vert members with the idea of creating a Rolling Stones type guitar rocker. But...none of us ever know how an idea will develop when you turn it over for input and start combining our musical thoughts. The basic song structure stayed intact but I'm not sure we exactly hit Rob's Rolling Stones rocker idea. However, you'll hear some great guitar work from Gary and some cool keys by DrC and of course, Rob's solid bass playing is the foundation for the whole song.

Something different from Rayon Vert, as Doctor C introduced me to Edgar Allan Poe's poetry. That DOC C is a "Classic" dude, as some of you may know. His influence has been very high on me, that's for sure. The last song I sent him was to be metal prog and it turned out to be......."ULALUME". He turned me all around on this with his keyboards, musical additions, arranging, mixing, and engineering. Farrell Jackson added acoustic guitars, Gary Carciello added his electric guitar work and Doc had me doing the vocal, as well as my bass part.

When I came to Doctor C with a new song idea, my intention was a metal type progressive rock song. Doctor C with his wild immagination sent me an e-mail back with this wild idea about this poem called "Ulalume". I had never heard of it, nor had any idea what he was talking about. I did a search on the internet and had a few listens to some readings of the poem. I put the basic idea in his hands and he developed the music. Through some pains of poetry reading, which I had never attempted, we came up with this song. We handed it off to Farrell, where he added some very sweet acoustic guitar, then to Gary, where he added his electrifying progressive guitars. I believe Doctor C did a superb mix job on this and had a wonderful idea. I hope you enjoy this terrifying late Halloween story.

About the song: When DrC presented this song to Rayon Vert it already had such a great vibe as just an instrumental. So the vocal approach I took was less is more because I didn't want to cover up any of those great sounding keys. This song is without a doubt the least amount of words I've ever put into a song lyric but with the added delay and reverb effects it seems to work quite well.

Gary presented this song to Rayon Vert for consideration. As soon as we all heard it, we not only said yes but HECK YES! Gary had the basic instrumental structure worked out but if you've listened to Gary's work, you know nothing is basic about it. So we went to work on it. DrC added his wonderful keyboard ideas, Rob created a great bass bottom and I found a melody. I think once you listen to this you'll hear some fabulous soloing with Gary's fat and creamy guitar tone, DrC's wild snake charmer keyboard fingerings, and Rob's bass playing is a solo in itself.

Black Cat.....The Final Song for our CD - @rayon-vert

Well, this completes the songs for our first CD. The original "Black Cat" done by CGDC and Friends was sung by myself (Rob), but I really wanted Farrell to sing the song for our CD. I thought he might be a little reluctant, due to the song lyrics, being a little personal.......hehehehehehehe......I didn't want anyone to think he was the CRAZY dude........hahahahahaha. Well!?!?!?! I guess, there are people all over the world who can relate to the lyrics in one way or another.........and I feel Farrell did a SUPER job with the song.

ANYWAY!!! The song started with a bass and drum part, supplied to Doctor C. I had no idea what he would do with it. With his classical influenece, he added the first lead break section. I heard that added bass to it and REALLY loved his addition. After he added his keyboards, I added the lyrics and vocals. At this point we turned the song over to Gary C for his super guitar additions. This new version, has changes from the original, new drums by Doctor C, new lead guitar parts by Gary and of course new vocals by Farrell. The whole song has been re-mixed and engineered by Doctor C and sent out for mastering, in prep for our CD.

OH!! BTW!! I just HAD to try to get in the spirit on the times and get some "rapping" in this song........hehehehehehehehehe. Well??? It kind of turned out Charlie Daniel's style!?!?!?!?!?!

This song is the result of an idea I was toying with on guitar. I had developed the chord structure and melody but hadn't written the words yet. Then.......the Same Nigel Lyric Challenge popped up at Mixposure. So I printed off the lyric and was amazed at the ease of how they fit with my melody. I then made a quick demo and sent it off to DrC, Gary, and Rob to see if they thought it had potential and if so, whether or not Rayon Vert wanted to particpate in the challenge with this song. The answer back was yes so we went to work on it.

The challenge deadline is 9-05-09. Well today is 9-05-09 and we are posting the song up as we slide in under the wire, lol!

This is a song idea that Rob Grant came up with. Rob always amazes us by the way he presents a song with just bass and drums. I used the words "just bass" but Rob's playing is never "just bass". His bass ideas are always big and exciting and they have the ability to ignite the creative juices in the rest of Rayon Vert. As Gary added the haunting guitar lines to it and DrC began to mold the song with his heavy, yet mellow Hammond, plus added all the little extra key parts, it began to take shape into a very cool sounding progressive rock ballad, so it's long. It was a pleasure to add my vocals and harmonies to this song.

Another addition to the Rayon Vert Cd that is nearing completion.

Purple Sky is a song that Gary, Rob, and DrC did a fantastic job on! The haunting guitar and key riffs that Gary and DrC have come with are the type that once you've heard them, stays in your head throughout the day. Rob's bass playing is very powerful in this song and holds tight with the drums to create a very big bottom. Once I heard the music I knew this was going to be a fun one to add vocals to.

The story is about a budding young musician that sees a rockstar's future for himself but life's responsibilities get in the way. Sounds familiar to many I'm sure
