This upbeat Bossa was my first composition. My son David challenged me to write my own original songs. The first time I set pen to paper, all I could think about was Bossa Nova, and how I fell in love with that sub-genre of Jazz. I knew that I would one day dedicate a song to my idol Antonio Carlos Jobim. I wanted this song to be different.
The story tells of a young man back in the 60s – spellbound by Bossa Nova music playing on all of the US radio stations. Like all young men of that era, he fell in love with the idea of that mysterious Girl from Ipanema. He fled to Rio de Janeiro and started searching for that girl. Just like that song by Jobim and De Moraes, my song has a bittersweet ending. Our hero endlessly searches for his Girl – while everyone around him sees him as a “Stranger In Brazil”.

We strive to bring new sounds to music lovers, which feature our own original compositions – performed by talented musicians from all over the Bay Area.
Fremont natives John and David Vargas (aka “D-Varg”) collaborated to write 16 original songs that celebrate the genre of Bossa Nova. Our compositions are inspired by the great works of composers Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ivan Lins and Celso Fonseca.
In the spirit of of legendary producer Quincy Jones and Sergio Mendes, we strive to bring talented musicians from the Bay Area to one studio, to produce new original hits. John Vargas is bandleader and lead vocalist – a student of classic bossa nova. D-Varg is an accomplished rap and hiphop artist who infuses a new groove into our mix.
Building a core-band of talented musicians, we enlisted: Tony Song (guitar) Mark Rickey (keyboards) Ravi Jayasinghe (bass) Sam Brignon (drums) Oshra Sedan (vocals)
Our debut album “Bossa510” also features talented session players from all over the San Francisco Bay Area — bringing a wide variety of styles and instrumentation into the mix: Ed Lee (guitar) David Stockman (congas) Chris Koraltan (drums) Esther Berndt (alto sax) Randy Merril (trumpet and flugelhorn) Tom Povse (flute) Nikki Rey (vocals) Jamillions (vocals)
