By drummer40, 2010-12-16

Well, it's that time of year when we reflect back on the year. As the publicist for Enter Music Publishing, publishers of hip, drum/percussion magazines worldwide and online, it was a very intereresting year.

Read on to find out what was the beat story of the best Beat magazine.

San Jose, Calif., Enter Music Publishing, publishers of hip, drum/percussion magazines worldwide and online, had a very interesting year. Despite the economy, the company was very successful in regard to its commitment in covering the drum industry in its position as the best magazine in the industry.

Here’s what happened…

Getting Down With The Drummies

Enter Music Publishing’s Drummies, its annual awards/poll consisting of 40 categories, had record-breaking results with more than 6500 drummers casting votes. This year’s Drummies had some surprises; Aaron Spears (R&B and Studio Drummer) won two awards. Internet sensation Cobus Potgieter was Rising Star of the Year. Not unexpectedly, Neil Peart won his fourth straight Drummie in the category of “Best Drummer” while Stanton Moore won “Best Funk Drummer.” http://www.drummagazine.com/drummies/

Tapping The Web

Next, the company focused a great deal of attention on its growing website with breaking news stories. Drum Magazine dot com published four to six stories a day.

And, it just added the industry’s most definitive worldwide drum clinics and events calendar, further proof of the company’s attempt to provide rich web content for drummers of all ages and walks of life.

Playing In The Community: Richie Hayward Benefit

DRUM! hosted and sponsored “Rhythm Night,” a benefit for drummer Richie Hayward, in conjunction with Sweet Relief, an organization that helps musicians with medical bills. Five hundred drummers and fans attended this historic event, which was a mix of concert and clinics featuring Thomas Pridgen, Marco Minnemann, and David Garibaldi with the Tower of Power rhythm section. http://www.drummagazine.com/features/post/stars-shine/

“The Hayward benefit was very important to put on due to his contributions to the drum industry,” noted Phil Hood, publisher and co-founder of Enter Music Publishing. “David Garibaldi and the other drummers who participated were just awesome in conveying the significance of Hayward to the drumming arts. That’s why we will continue to sponsor drumming events like this every August.”

What’s The Hit In 2011?

Next year, Enter Music Publishing will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Hood noted that the company has already planned to conduct promotions and special events in conjunction with its anniversary. One of those is the launch of The Drummies Hall Of Fame. Eleven drummers who have won five or more Drummies will be inducted in January 2011. In addition, the company will be unveiling new digital products throughout the year.

Stay tuned and grooving with the DRUM! crew.

About the song The Wayfarer:

Gary Carciello - original song idea and drums programming. All guitars

DrC - all keyboards, final drums programming, production, mixing/mastering

Rob Grant - Bass guitar.

Farrell - Vocal, melody, and lyric.

This is Rayon Vert's first song out of the gates after a 5 month group layoff. The pause was due to many things....like busy lives and each doing our own musical work.... but it certainly wasn't a lack of desire, inspiration, or energy on our parts. I think you might hear some of that pent up Rayon Vert energy released in this song. I contacted everyone in November and asked if we were ready to rock 'n roll once again. I got a resounding yes so here we are with our first on the list of a few back logged songs. Gary sent this nearly completed demo song to us all for our thoughts and we enthusiastically went to work on it. Gary's guitar playing and his song ideas in general still amazes the heck out of me/us. Rob's bass is just as solid as ever and it holds down the fort with thundering conviction. DrC's keyboard skills go without saying....we all know he rocks but DrC seems to know where and how to place them for maximum effect. Plus his production, mixing, and mastering skills just keep getting better! Me? Well I have the easy part...I just write the lyric and sing them...the most difficult part for me is delivering a vocal that matches the feel of the song.

About the lyric: It's about the confusion generated from misunderstandings that we all experience once in a while. This causes a wandering or searching of the mind trying to figure out what or why something happened......hence The Wayfarer.

I think we all hit our groove with this song but you, the listeners, will be the ones to say yes or no........ We hope you like it!

Farrell Jackson for Rayon Vert
