Anyone interested in doing a Same Song Title Madness?
So, Theatre of Life breaks up in 1978 or so as we are inches away from signing with a record label. Punk is coming like a tsunami and progressive rock is drowning, hell even Genesis had a top 10 pop song with Follow You, Follow Me. Oy Vey!
Looked like it was over so I sold the Roland Synth, the Farfisa, the Honner piano, the Leslie, and yes even the accordion;( damn, not the accordion!) Took the money and went back to school. I kept the Ovation and the Fender amp and played solo at pubs, cafes, taverns but it wasn't the same. I missed the keys, the 20 minute instrumentals And I just didn't like playing everyone else's top 40 songs. (Supers Ready just didn't work on an acoustic.)
Well I graduated with an undergrad, then a masters, then a juris doctor, married (3 times), raised a family and worked my ass off. Once in a while I would pull the Ovation from the closet, string it and then OOUCH! (damn…no more calluses) back in the case it went. Life happened, fell off my garage roof while re-shingling it (yea I was a lawyer, but a damn cheap one. DIY Baby!) and broke my left hand and severed a tendon in my right hand ring finger. Well there goes ever playing keyboards again. So music seemed like a distant memory after that, and a painful regret. Why did I Stop? What if?
Some 30 years later, after an entire lifetime of work, my failed practice everything came tumbling down. Lost my wife in a car crash during the time, then got sick. I couldn't practice law anymore, I couldn't do anything but lie in bed for over a year. Thanks to my new love of my life Lisa, I survived. But the whole time thinking about the days with Theatre of Life. The tours, the songwriting, the music.Oh the regrets. Why did I throw it all away? But in time I came to realize you don't throw it away, it morphs into something else. I was always known as a creative problem solver. Was that creativity the music in a business suit? Perhaps.
Once back on my feet and nearly 60 (puck off you gorgeous 20 year olds, that's still young!)I didn't know what I was going to do. I got a job as an adjunct professor in a local community college teaching business law and found myself waking up daily with melodies in my head. The radio in my head that was always there during Theatre of Life, that was shut down for some 40 years was turned back on. I was dreaming music again! I pulled the Ovation back out, restrung it and began playing again. It took a while, I had to train my hands again especially the left hand that I broke, but it slowly came back. Yea, there's no way I can play a Steve Howe riff anymore, or a Tony Banks solo, but I could play again, and more importantly I was writing again. In the first 8 months songs have come pouring out.
Now back in the 70's, you had to be discovered by a record label to have any opportunity of recording your music or having it heard. But over the past 40 years something wonderful has happened: home computing and the Internet! So on to ebay, buy a Behringer mixer, condenser mics, midi keys, glue foam panels everywhere in the spare bedroom (thanks for moving out son!) and record, damn I was recording! In May 2016 I completed my return EP of 7 songs and then 2 more singles shortly after. Yes the production value is wanting, I get it, but I'm doing it, nearly 40 years later I'm doing it.
Unfortunately life has hit me fucking hard again recently and I have hardly been able to play or record for over 8 months now...ITS DAMN UNFAIR!!!!! But I'm not giving up, I know I'll be back ...I have to...I believe.....

I'M EXTREMELY EXCITED! ***EXTRA EXTRA*** According to my email: "We are happy to inform you that your song has been received and will be reviewed for possible airplay. If your song is approved, we will be contacting you about when it will be first played."
I need to get this off my chest right now. Lesson learned. Be considerate. I know. It hurts. I've been back down so long. I've been hurt so long. I've been ashamed.
Congrats to Moscato for having the Mixposure.com Song of the Week. Check out Broken Dreams Below.
We originally formed with a sole purpose in mind. What started out as a regular jam session between Jo and Monkey (Adrian) inspired Jo to take the next step and record, not only for herself but with the determination to put together a compilation album of local musicians which would raise awareness for Auto Immune Disorders having all proceeds go to Arthritis QLD.
In the early stages Jo and Erin crossed paths and it was believed a saxophone would compliment the jamming duo. This was the birth of not only “Moscato” but of 3 beautiful friendships that we feel blessed to have.
Within 13 weeks of our 1st rehearsal we completed our 1st of what will be many recording.
These Original songs were placed alongside Original pieces written and performed by some of the most unique and talented musicians Mackay has to offer, all with one goal in mind, to raise awareness with an album title of “Broken Silence”.
As we drove the gruelling 10+hour trip back to our hometown we were in awe of what we had achieved in such a short period. The common travellers question of “Are we there yet?” was replaced by “Wow, did that really just happen? “.
Now knowing what could be accomplished our minds were filled with possibilities and we were eager to work on our next E.P. A decision was made to record in 6 months with Erin relieving Jo of lead vocals whose lungs (due to auto immune disorders) were not strong enough.
With each finished EP our confidence and creativity grows, it only seemed fitting that we expand our much loved trio. In October 2014 we met Kerin Shaw who has played in various rock bands throughout his life, it was certain that it was in the stars as his can do/give anything a go/ laid back attitude was much like our own, not to mention his unique style of bass playing complimented what we had already accomplished. In November 2014 we also welcomed Kristen Anderson who would join Erin as lead vocalist. As we work on our next EP the two girls prove unlike any other females as they end each song with a high five working as what we believe is an unstoppable vocal team. With Kristen's background being Country and Theater she really brings something different to the table, and with all our minds combined we feel we are finding our feet as to where our path now leads and we are really excited to record this next EP soon after in July so we can share it with you all. Erin has left to pursue other Avenues but we will also enjoy the Talents of Kaz accompanying Kristen on Vocals and Bringing ,Cello,Sax and Keys, Just Pup, Lead guitar , and Laka on Drums joining us on our "Adrift " EP, We know our music is not everyone's cup of tea, but this is us, this is who we are and this is what we love doing. Whether this disc makes you smile, want to relax, want to dance or take a step back to notice what is going on in the world even for a second then it has all been more than worth it,, and even if it doesn’t have this effect … we will just keep on recording and releasing because it’s what we love.
This is us, we are “Moscato” and we thank you from the very bottom of our heart for allowing us to share with you our music.
We hope you enjoy it!!

I've been thinking about the song reviews I do at Mixposure. If you've heard the songs I write and the collaborations I get involved with, you'll most likely agree that my interest in music styles and genres varies greatly. So it follows the same road when I choose songs to review. On average, I review approximately 1.1 songs a day according the Mixposure statistics that are shown on the Community/New Songs pages. That's not an extraordinary amount by no means but do know that I listen to many more songs than that.
If I hear something in a song I like then I'll leave a comment......if I don't, I won't. The comment/s might be just a few words or a more detailed analysis of what I like about the song. I believe artists appreciate even a comment like "good song!". It let's them know someone is listening to their creativity and hard work it took to take a song from nothing and to the point of posting it up.
I suppose the real reason I'm writing this blog is to let you know if you get a comment from me, however slight, it's an honest comment. I'm not shining you on or trying to boost my review numbers. There's nothing to gain by doing that. I'm leaving the words because something in your song caught my ear, struck a note, and made me feel. I think/hope you would like to know your effort paid off and hasn't fallen by the wayside....even if it's just a micro encouragement from someone you don't even know.
My ramble for this morning...............I need to back off the caffeine...........
