Mama says I was her favorite
Papa's proud of his new son
Try so hard to make them love me
Try so hard to be the one
But today I woke up hurting
I never did...
Mama says I was her favorite
Papa's proud of his new son
Try so hard to make them love me
Try so hard to be the one
But today I woke up hurting
I never did make it inside
Empty bottles all around me
Got to get out now and hide
24 years of building bridges
24 hours to burn them down
What would you say if you could reach me
Before I headed out of town
Papa, I'm not gonna tell you
What I did to make me go
Mama, go back to the kitchen
I admit, you told me so
24 years of building bridges
24 hours to burn them down
What would you say if you could reach me
Before I headed out of town
Stop the phone calls
Stop the fear
Stop the paper and get
Out of here
Shut the lights off
Let me go
Start the car
Hit the road
Mama says I was her favorite
Papa's proud of his new son
If only the two could see me
All alone and on the run
24 years of building bridges
24 hours to burn them down
What would you say if you could reach me
Now that I've headed out of town

This is very good, sweet backing, but for me the vocals are what makes the song. I can see the Lennon and Joel influences. But for me you simply have a great voice enjoyed this one well done

I see the Billy Joel thing, but I almost hear some John Lennon in your voice (just toss in a bit more of that Liddypool Scouser accent, and you'd have it!).
Your lyrcis are solid and I love your style. Maybe "pensive" is a good way to describe your songs. Thanks for sharing.

Did Brad Rourke grow up in Detroit, hanging out in Cass Corridor dives like the Old Miami and The Uncooperative where Grief Factory and the 3-D Invisibles killed? Did he crawl through the Berkeley punk scene back when Fang and MDC still ruled, and get thrown out of a Pogues show at the Fillmore for stage diving? Has he worshipped Nick Cave ever since Prayers on Fire? GUILTY AS CHARGED.
So why is Brad Rourke singing country-lonesome songs about losers and left-behinds, armed with a guitar and his smokey, whiskey voice? Cause that's who he knows.
Brad Rourke is a singer-songwriter based in Rockville, Maryland. He writes and sings songs about the fissures and cracks in everyday life. His songs will drag you down. The people you meet in them are stuck, caught in their own self-destruction in a place where nothing comes free. If you dig people like that as much as Brad does, come along. Maybe they'll let you stay awhile.

Hey Brad welcome back!
Mix is very clean and sounds great. Love the acoustic sound. Nice harmonies as well.
Very solid track with some impressive lyrics and vocals. Still remind me of early Billy Joel .
