A quartet from Toronto that looks and sounds like it was made for arena rock, CampX approaches its songs in dramatic terms: hard-edged in appearance but radio-friendly in delivery. A fervent juxtaposition that, ironically, makes the band all the more convincing.

With the exceptional lyricism of the latest CampX album, All Quiet on the Northern Front, frontman Andrew Carswell never pretends that he is too cool for sentimentality. While many of the songs have deeply personal connotations, there exists a subtle ambiguity engaging listeners to search for their own personal interpretations – assuming that they are not hypnotised by the strength of Andrew’s voice – and the potency by which the band’s remaining members – brother Paul (keyboards/back-up vocals), Jay Corby (drums), Aaron Okada (bass/back-up vocals),– deliver their wonderfully accessible tunes is the ultimate compliment to Andrew’s singing.

Catchy hooks swirl together with lilting counter-melodies to form a rich sonic tapestry that is both over-the-top, and refined in its simplicity. CampX has redefined the ‘wall of sound’ phraseology to establish an air that easily lends itself to the cavernous venues frequented by today’s mega-bands – though their presence has no less impact on a smaller stage. By recognising that beyond the music there exists a symbiotic relationship between a band and their fans, CampX evokes a sense of intimacy with their live show that is often overlooked by up-and-coming bands. That fact is not lost on its listeners.

While the overwhelmingly positive response CampX has received could easily go to its collective head, the band maintains a remarkably even-keeled perspective regarding their next steps. Diversification is of paramount importance when delivering the success of All Quiet on the Northern Front to a larger audience. With a promotional video currently in the can, a radio-campaign and tour coming soon, CampX is working hard to augment their popularity, fan by fan, setting them up for the international stage.

A quintet from Toronto that looks and sounds like it was made for arena rock, CampX recognises that with firm direction, sheer determination, and a little bit of luck, their future success will assuredly be as bright as that of any rising star.
