This one started as a backing track produced for the Les Paul Forum by Rainer Gaffrey who put together the drums, percussion and synth. I added a rhythm track played on a Gibson CS-356 into a Crybaby Classic recorded direct through a Womanizer pedal. The lead was also played on a CS-356 with a BD-2 and an Option 5 Destination Phase pedal in the chain, but much of the special effects came from the PSP 84 digital delay plug-in which has an astounding array of presets and extensive tweakability.
I struggled with this mix for days, trying to tame the various layers so that some of them wouldn't stick out to much... while also trying to flog it higher. In the end there were a lot of quirks in the capture -- things like a level or gain set higher than it should have been when I stomped on a pedal -- that were beyond my skill to fix. I either couldn't dial it out in post, or couldn't replicate the energy of an earlier take. But all that "effort" is a large part of the fun for me.

Nice funky tune, Clay ... nice powerful mix, very happening in the rhythm department. Great guitars all the way! Love the percussion, too! On my show this Saturday!

I'm a midlife blueshound who hasn't been in a band since high school, when my main ambition was to sound as much like "Get Yer Ya Yas Out" as possible. Still workin' on that in my self-taught way, but except for an ocassional open mic blues jam most of my playing time now is over backing tracks created by myself or online friends from some of the communities I frequent. At my site over at Soundick (which never seems to make you throw anything away) there are now over 500 of such efforts archived. That's a lot of recording practice, but only a marginal increase in playing chops.

I bring most of the very best stuff over here when I remember to do it, so the things here generally stand the test of time to me. Elsewhere I'll tackle anything from blues to rock to jazz to funk if I can find a way in, but the results don't always merit (or reward) repeated listen.

Fun for me, but as they say: your mileage may vary!

Thanks for stopping by. I promise to review your stuff "real soon".
