Written on a parchment Or carved into a tree Or spoken with a heavy heart Words can set you free
I'm the one who's leaving But you're the one who left You think that you're letting go But you only take small steps
And so I turned and took the beckoning road Feeling somewhat less than bold No-one stirred and no-one called my name No-one tried to call me back again
Still I wouldn't say no to a guiding hand I'd like to be sure I'm not alone in this land But if it has to be It has to be I won't enter a plea I won't bend my knee
Looked into my diary Full of dust and time From an age when being young Had not become a crime
Took that magic carpet Traced patterns in my mind Wondered why I chose the fool Could have been more kind
So I found a place to rest my bones It wasn't cold but it wasn't home I wonder could I start again, again Or has the unmapped quest found it's final amen
Still I wouldn't say no to a guiding hand I'd like to be sure I'm not alone in this land But if it has to be It has to be I won't enter a plea I won't bend my knee

"Magic Carpet" is an absolutely beautiful song about two estranged lovers. The music is very whimsical and delicate. The lyrics are remarkable. Some of my favorites : "From an age when being young had not become a crime"
"So I found a place to rest my bones, It wasn't cold but it wasn't home"
Awesome lines there.
This song is great.

Beautiful acoustic intro sets up this number perfectly. Really nice feel throughout. Nicely performed and tastefully produced. Only niggle is that the acoustic guitar gets lost in the mix from time to time. Other than that, really good job. Thanks for sharing!

What a beautiful acoustic tone! You have a Cat Stevens vibe in your voice. You're definitly singer/songwriter geared. Great stuff. Piano is a nice touch, but I'm sure your guitar and voice would stand on it's own merit. Enjoyed this very much.

They are mostly in a fingerpicking style with a lead break usually in there somewhere. I guess I've been influenced in my playing by the likes of Bert Jansch and John Renborn and in my songwriting by Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and others. I also loved the gentle sound of the great Mississippi John Hurt. He probably influenced me the most when I first started playing. The music of Nick Drake has been a more recent discovery and influence for me. </p></td></tr></table>
