New CD (Finally) Released!

I Do Things In Lumps!

I mean, I do a lump of guitar recording then a lump of singing and then a lump of editing and finally a lump of mixes. I do things this way because it's more "efficient" than guitar-vox-edit-mix-guitar-vox-edit-mix cycles. So when I get into an edit-edit-edit-edit-edit-edit-edit-edit… mode, my brain becomes mince after a few days. At the moment I'm in the middle of a lump of comping vocals. A most mind-numbing and spirit-sapping experience. Nevertheless, workflow and efficiency is key to my getting done what needs to get done - what with the day-job and other bits of intervening life. I bet y'all thought I stuck a couple of mics up, blethered out a few songs, dispatched to a mastering engineer and thence to a replication plant, and that was that. Heh. Oh, no-o-o-o-o-o. I'm an artist. I obsess. Heh. Right, back on with the cans...

Another Day Older... That's All!

Thank you all for the birthday greetings (Monday). I should be slowing down, but what the heck. So many scales and arpeggios to climb and descend. Twenty-two keys to get lost in. Gazillions of chord voicing to explore. All without a map and a compass. New Song - Bliadhna nan Caorach, or...

... The Year Of The Sheep  "But [the Scottish] hills are empty. In all of Britain only among them can one find real solitude, and if their history is known there is no satisfaction to be got from the experience." (John Prebble. From the introduction to his "The Highland Clearances", Penguin Books, 1963.) "Since you have preferred sheep to men, let sheep defend you!" (Quotation from the same book.) This is a song from the forthcoming CD which I'm lurching towards. I'm sure you all know that Bliadhna nan Caorach (The Year Of The Sheep) refers to the year 1792 during which all the flocks of sheep in Scotland formed an army and evicted the human population from the hills and the glens. (Eek!) This has reached the stage where I would welcome critique on the sonics which you think I should maybe attend to before I commit to mastering. My own ears have thrown in the towel. Some might say it's another one of my attempts at shoe-horning some lyrics into something that wants to be an acoustic fingerstyle guitar piece! Please take a listen: The Year Of The Sheep Thanks!

Thank You!

I want to say thank you to Mike for hostng my little show tonight. Thank you, too, to the folks taking an interest and joining us in the chat room. I always enjoy a little chat about myself and my songs! All in all, a thrill for me and I hope the listeners were touched by something they heard. Right - I'm at the business end of my bottle of wine and i've practiced enough minor 7th arpeggios and the cat's been fed. So night-night all... ...and thanks again!

Thank You All Again - And A Gig Tomorrow!

I've tried to reply to all the kind messages and comments. I hope I haven't missed anyone.
Frankly, what I really want to do is kick back and enjoy some of the music here. That'll be after tomorrow's gg at a wee place in Dunfermline, just north of Edinburgh.

It took a while...
I hope you enjoy them. Most songs are from the CD but How Well is an early mix for the next one and is free to download and share. I'll get a couple more early mixes up soon.
I'll spruce things up a bit and upload some more bits and pieces - but I feel like I want to browse around here and listen to some music for a change!
