Can you lift me from this coldness This indifference, this distance? I've hurt too long and hard And I'm needing your assistance. Haggling and legal fees, The chill of bitter memories, Blackmail, its counterparts, Memorial to broken hearts. Can you help me open out again?
Can you take this resignation, Can you help it gather rust? Can you show me a different way, A different world where there is trust? With cynicism outward bound Is tenderness what we've both found? Is it a kind of peace which starts And says goodbye to frozen hearts? Can you help me open out again?
Chorus Can you lift me, pick me up, dust me down, dust me down? Can you take me, give me hope, stay around, stay around?

Several years ago I was having a beer with an acquaintance in the Vittoria, a pub in Clifton, Bristol. At the time, his failing relationship meant he stood to lose an awful lot out of the spoils of their joint home being divided. It was a situation I could empathise with because I'd been through something similar a few years earlier. When I got home I composed the entire song on the piano. The person it's addressed to is imaginary - somebody who would help to dispel the acrimony and difficulties such experiences bring.

Once again, I am ridiculously late in the game. Normally I try to offer constructive criticism, but I feel way out of my league here... O_O I can't play acoustic, and I damn sure can't do folk. However, I think the stronger reason I'm unable to give criticism is probably because it's just that GOOD. ______With the exception of the ending. I really think this song deserves a more powerful ending than the standard slow chord. Maybe you could try a longer vocal right there, possibly keeping the slow chord, just so long as the vocal is going past it by a few seconds. ______Or, you could play the chord and then repeat "Can you take me, give me hope, stay around, stay around?" slower and MUCH quieter. _______5.0 stars regardless.

After hearing your other tune, I had to stop and listen to this as well. Pretty acoustic playing. A voice that fits too... All I can say is I enjoyed this very much. Haunting.

"Stay Around" has a classic folk rock quality which I really like very much. I love the sweet guitar play and the deep expression of your vocal, the golden reverb on the mix and all the accents.

Delightful alternative country tune. Great voicing, subtile mix. Harmonies both from beatles and lambchop. Simple and perfect, magical atmosphere.

Geoff Davis is a singer and songwriter of rare talent. He was born in Bristol in the UK and lived there for most of his life. However, in 2009 he moved to Nuoro in Sardinia, Italy and still lives there with his Italian wife. In the past he has fronted the pop/rock band The Freudian Slippers and the acoustic based trio Davis, Edwards & Riley, the latter often having the acclaimed violinist Graham Smith (formerly of String Driven Thing and Van Der Graaf Generator) as a guest at their gigs. A number of his songs have been broadcast on BBC Radio and he has also performed his material, along with Dave Edwards, Syd Riley and Graham Smith, on British television.
Geoff's Album Ancient Wisdom, Modern World displays his talent as a singer and a songwriter with its wide range of musical styles, brilliant lyricism and variety of vocal techniques.
About a year ago he joined the Nuoro based band Optimistic Sound who perform a mixture of classic English, American and Italian rock, blues and soul music.
