Tennessee © Guy Chant: All Rights Reserved The rumbling of the trailers infiltrates my room Emerging from the night I sense the day The early light defying the resistance of the blinds Cruelly driving hope of sleep away The icy blast of winter spilling out its final play Makes New York cold and bitter, so forlorn Its teaming streets don’t work for me, couldn’t wait to say goodbye Didn’t need a second chance to say, “I’m gone” Chorus And it’s days like this I know I'm really glad to be alive To feel the vital pulse course through my veins The cliché of the open road still feels good to me And Tennessee has won my heart again Oh Tennessee has won my heart again This southern springtime morning still holds a chilly edge Gently fresh as I step out the door A thousand miles behind me, down the Appalachian trail Before me just another thousand more Bridge I've marvelled at the Opry with its strange eclectic mix Heard Music City charm me with its songs But the Bluebird is the place for me, the mood just suits my style And I'm sure to make it back before too long The valleys and the trees, the mountains and the streams Strangely bringing memories of home The ups may be much higher and the downs seem deeper still But this gentle rolling road just warms these bones
