I play all the instruments except drums and sing lyrics written by Pete Rivers. This is hard to define...there's a smoky, slinky mood and the ryhthm that comes from a hot summer night. It's kind of bluesy urban soul.
I started playing guitar when I was 16 in 1967 in Toronto. Soon after I got a James Taylor tab book and learned to pick with thumb and 3 fingers...fingerstyle has been my specialty ever since then.
My friends tried to make a living in bands but I decided to work and play around Western Canada mostly for fun, with some teaching. In 1975 I took six classical guitar lessons and got my Gr. IV at the Victoria Conservatory but I was playing mostly for fun around kitchen tables & campfires. I got non-music jobs during the 80s and 90s but my guitar was always close by for me to enjoy and to learn.
In 2007 my doctor advised me to stop working and take care of my health after I got diabetes & arthritis and I decided that I would finally do something with my music. So since then I've been teaching myself how to record in my bachelor apartment and putting my songs on places like Reverbnation and Facebook. The response has been great and I have about 70 songs online and fans all over the world.
I can't do any touring because of my health so I"m concentrating on learning more about recording and getting songs online. It's difficult because I'm on a small disability pension and can barely afford bare essentials so studio time and expensive guitars are unaffordable.
But my goal was to get my music out there so that I can leave a musical legacy behind me when I go and I've achieved that. Now I'm working on writing and trying to make quality recordings that I can hopefully make some money with before I go.
