Once I was like you
Now not so much
Can’t recall your kisses
Or the warmth of your touch
I’ve blocked them from my memory
So I won't feel the pain
So I can say the fire is gone
And not a spark remains
The sweetness of surrender
Relief as I let go
My genie in a bottle
tells me all I need to know
The sweetness and the freedom
to just not give a damn
'bout anything or anyone
but the next Diazepam
I thought that I knew you
but I was wrong
The moment I faltered
you carried right on
My absence went unnoticed
Not pined for and not missed
Replaced with such indifference
Without a trace of guilt
The sweetness of surrender
Relief as I let go
My genie in a bottle
tells me all I need to know
The sweetness and the freedom
to just not give a damn
'bout anything or anyone
but the next Diazepam
I wish I was like you
You have it all
You breeze through life
Never stumble or fall
Is your table set for two again?
Just like I never left?
And does someone keep you warm at night
On my side of your bed?
I turn the page
and disengage
Floating away
into the haze
The sweetness of surrender
Relief as I let go
My genie in a bottle
tells me all I need to know
The sweetness and the freedom
to just not give a damn
'bout anything or anyone
but the next Diazepam
wow...great song, and so well done...I enjoy muchly!
Excellent lyrics! The chorus melody is top notch with the references to "a genie in a bottle....and Diazepam" being standout lines to me. Great piano work. The Sweetness of Surrender is a winner!
