Verse 1
Born in 1889, a mending Nation in a changing time
A score and 4 has past since the Civil War
As a boy he gazed out at the reach, where the sun and water seemed to meet
Dreaming seaward bound; from New London’s sound

Now another boy from a different place, cry’s a tear for his fathers face
As he cast his eye’s out over the waters grave
Now his mothers hand was soft but stern, a loving soul taught hard lessons learned
To that lonely lad; who lost his Dad
Verse 3
One made his way to his new home town, when no jobs where found in New England’s towns
And bread lines seem to stretch from shore to shore
But he worked his fingers to the bone, and he made his family a happy home
And oh I’m glad; he’s my father’s dad

Now I don’t know if I took the time to say how much I cared
To these two men in my life; who where always there
I only hope someday I’ll find these two at my side

Now the other boy went out to sea, to fight for freedom and his family
For the war to end all wars never came to be
And as I grew I saw his eyes; with a glint of hope for the changing times
And the look of love; and the gleam of pride
Verse 5
Now they taught me thru the tails they told, how the stories pages may unfold
For your book of life is only a page in time
So as I pen my chapters end in this verse called life; I know I’ll tend
To try to see; through my grand-dads eyes
