V1   I used to eat sleep and dream this guitar

Well those dreams are fading now

I had it all planned out

Pillage and plunder small rock and roll towns

Yeah my dreams left quite a wake

I’m thankful they never saw much light of day

I may be older and a little worn down

But I’ll dream better this time--- around.

V2   I heard the song of fast talking men and faster girls

digging every word and sound

they had me all planned out

Promised me the world so ripe and round

Yeah those visions of MTV wannabes

All their promises only would have ruined me

V3   When I saw you from the stage I was playing

My eyes held the pearl of great price

We loved like fire and ice

you played my heart strings day and night

and our duo melody ever rising

made my solo song so-- uninspiring

must be time to put my younger dreams down

V4  Well our dream didn’t work out as well as planned

Rather it ended in a song

Battered and broken and barely getting on

We were only right in going very wrong

Yeah we fought our love rather bitterly

problem with you was mainly me

Now we’re older and a little worn down

He told me to go back home

I had no business there alone

Yahweh too much for any man to own

While preachers are praising and pandering

My greatest sin was youthful meandering

Miles in my face lines now

How I’m still here I don’t know how

Might be a miracle but faith wasn’t found

And now my nights a guitar is my company

Frets are ground by cold steel memories
