I'd rather listen to the rhythm of the road / than tune in to the radio / there's too many love songs / to remind me of you and I / I'd rather focus on / the cars goin' by / look straight ahead / ignore the rear view / I'm not looking back / I'm not comin' back to you / There's nothin' like a highway / to ease my troubled mind / With every mile that passes / I'm leavin' more of us behind / Drivin' just as fast as I can go / listenin' to the Rhythm of the Road / This crack in my windshield / reminds me of us / the way that we left our love / split right in two / broken beyond repair / It's hard to be sad when the sky's this blue / sun shinin' bright / got nothin' to do / Oh the tops rolled down / wind blowin' through my hair / There's nothin' like a highway / to ease my troubled mind / With every mile that passes / I'm leavin' more of us behind / Drivin' just as fast as I can go / listenin' to the Rhythm of the Road / Crossroads ahead / what should I do / turn around and head for you / or keep goin' north into the great beyond / Think I'll drive as far as I can go / listenin' to the Rhythm of the Road/ There's nothin' like a highway / to ease my troubled mind / With every mile that passes / I'm leavin' more of us behind / Drivin' just as fast as I can go / listenin' to the Rhythm of the Road / Rhythm of the Road

I got the idea for this song driving down Expressway 83 here in South Texas in my Dad's old Subaru, which did not have a working CD player, mp3 player, bluetooth connection, or any semblance of a modern way to listen to music. So I turned on the radio and after a few minutes of scanning the channels, I said to myself, "I'd rather listen to the rhythm of the road than this!" and then the song was born.

Joel Brogon is a Folk/Americana artist from South Texas, living near the US/Mexico Border at the Rio Grande River. His influences range from classic Singer/Songwriters, Folk music of the 70’s, and 90’s Country. Brogon’s focus as a songwriter is telling stories based on his own life experiences and of those around him, and often uses music to reflect on nature, LGBTQ+ issues, and the environment. He loves connecting with audiences in small, intimate venues like coffeehouses, farmers markets, listening rooms, home concerts and sometimes just the front porch. A local activist and community spiritual leader, Joel lives with his husband Christopher and their four fur-children.
