Song Lyrics
Can you hear the voice that doesn’t make a sound
Or the cry for help that’s screaming through their eyes Will you give your child excuses for their...
Can you hear the voice that doesn’t make a sound
Or the cry for help that’s screaming through their eyes Will you give your child excuses for their sadness when they’ve found
That we’re the only mammals left alive
The eagle soaring high above is such a beautiful sight But not as pretty as money in our hands
So we tear down all it’s tress and put skyscraper’s in it’s flight
We clip it’s wings and then we pave it’s land
Can you see the tears in the rain
Can you hear their silent pain
Can you see the damage that you cause
When your eyes aren’t open
Can you see the tears in the rain
Right now we’ve got to make a change
Can’t you see we’re headed for a fall
If our hearts aren’t open at all
Can you hear the sound of the hearts we break each day
When we take their homes, their families and their lives And will you fight their battles or run to higher ground ‘Cause the time has come to finally do what’s right
All the Earth’s inhabitants have the right to live
But rights have no power if not upheld
So stand up for your brothers who can’t stand up for themselves
Just open up your heart and ask yourself
CHORUS
Just because you can’t see their tears, doesn’t mean that they’re not real
So help the rain wash those tears away
Give them back their freedom, their land and dignity
And Mother Nature’s children will be saved
Then you’ll see the tears in the rain
you will hear their silent pain
You’ll repair the damage that you cause Now eyes aren’t open
You will see the tears in the rain
Right now we’ve finally made a change
We’re no longer headed for a fall
‘Cause our hearts are open copyright 2004

Wow! I don't know what to say to such a glowing review. I'm touched and gratified that my music has moved someone, especially someone from a different genre. I always hoped my tunes would appeal to everyone despite their roots.
Rock on!

Hey Matt, firstly thanks to Dolce's review...i was directed to this toon..from the front page.
What a remarkable presence you possess...the lyrically content is understood clearly on the first pass of the song. (although it does remind me of a MJ format) that does not detach the interest in any way.
The arrangement is very orchestrated and professionally laid out for the 'space" in between the segments.
The emotion that you project with your vocal delivery is the hi-light for my listen...i find it hard to believe that this kind of talent can slip through the music scene....without proper recognition and placement.
man.....this is fantastic work.

That is very kind and much appreciated, Dolce. I try to keep the integrity in my music and comments like yours make it worth it!

I fail to hear the female vocals in this piece. You sir have an incredible amount of talent and I absolutely love this song. Full of promise and conviction.
Kudos,

Matt...this is the kind of arrangement that suits your voice so perfectly. You shine with that choir in the background. I am over here singing & bopping my head to this. I love songs like this that lifts you up. Your falsetto is SOLID! I get told a lot that my falsetto is mistaken for a female singer whens its really just me, lol. Your voice is wonderful, Bro. Keep up the fine work...I'd even love to sing something with you in the future. Would be cool! Well done here once again!

I have been hearing this a lot on MixStream Radio. What a great tune. Outstanding vocals and harmonies. Music is as good as it gets. Love the lyrics, such a refreshing message in this song.
Top-drawer tune, this is.
Love it.

Thanks Lucindra! (cool name, by the way)
All the production and instruments were played by myself, except for the acoustic guitar.
I was definitely going for a spiritual vibe and message on this one.
thanks again!

Man, great mix/production. Man, you may be mistaken for a fem vocal...sometimes...but never a BAD vocalist. Crisp and clear and solid all the way.
Well done!

Thanks Pyramis, but it's not a female vocalist. It's me A guy. But I get mistaken for a woman singer often.
Thanks!

Good music and production, and that female lead vocalist is good.
Has an "out of the closet" vibe to it.

Matt Dean is best known as a jobbing and studio musician in Toronto. As a youngster, his versatility as a vocalist, keyboardist, trombonist and percussionist has won him many honors, including being chosen by Rob McConnell as one of Canada's finest for the Calgary Olympic Jazz Band. Matt has had the privilege of performing with Guido Basso, Murray McLaughlin, David Wilcox and The Nylons. He has opened for many artists including Linda Rondstadt and performed at the Juno Awards as well as for members of The Royal Family. Matt's incredible four octave range, smooth styling, and versatility have captured many an audience's attention and praise. He has played everything from Jazz to Classical and Pop/Rock to R&B.
Now that Matt's focus has turned to song writing, he has found a wealth of creativity and expression that he had not yet explored. Shades Of Gray embodies Matt's talents and experience. Except for the choir and a few guitar tracks, all vocals, Matt performs instruments and solos. All songs are written, arranged and produced, and recorded in his studio - 'Dean Acres'. Matt even did the graphic design and layout for the CD!
Although he has been a musician for many years now, Matt feels he has just recently started to walk his own path, and he's picking up speed. Whatever is around the corner for this talented singer/songwriter, it will be greeted with an open heart and embraced with the passion that permeates everything he does.
