Hi Joe: Also a Sonar 6 user. If you are going plainly acoustic I would recommend using Audition 2. Rather than Sonar, because it's crowded with MIDI resources you might not need. If you stay with Sonar, you might be needing pretty soon a keyboarad controller to exploit ALL the MIDI power built in.
Let me know your intentions.
Regarding Original or Interpreted music: Don't be affraid of doing other composer songs, as long as you introduce a new concept in the realization. A different style, beat, swing, embelishements or whatsoever. Just avoid trying to "sound like" anybody. Create your own sound...

Create something original!! The problem with covers is, well, they have already been done. Anything you do will always be compared to the original. Let's face it, the originals will more than likely always sound better. With originals, there is no point of comparison!
+If it's not an original creation,something you can call exclusively your own,it's going to be an issue.This site and most all OMD's are for originals only.

Now that I know about the copywright issue, originals are the way to go.
how about standards? public domain? how does one know if this will be an issue?
I am new to this they romoved it cus of copywright issues.

For starters I do not sing that well. If you can sing that would be helpful.
I am learning how to put together songs that I can play harmonica on.
Starting with a cover might be an easy way to start.
