Here is a song I wrote in 2002 and re-recorded in 2009. I think it is more pertinent today than when I wrote it. Hope you enjoy.
THE MONEY TREE
There's pirates alive in the world today
Swashbuckle all your money away for themselves
A clean shaven face and a suit and a tie
Looking like any other guy, it's camouflage
Maybe they can turn it around
But my faith has beaten down by the money tree
They've stolen it all from people with less
just doing their best to make a life in society
Don't you lie to me, don't you lie to me
Skimming the top from what you invest
Looks like they have finally cracked your nest egg
Mansions, yachts, mergers, stocks
everything they ever bought, was a blitzkrieg
History tells me this is a time
when we need each other the most
And I am just appalled by all the greed I see
brought on by the money tree
Don't you lie to me, don't you lie to me
Did any of them ever think of all the good
they could have done for the whole wide world
How do you grow people so vain
who grow to adults with such a disdain
for their brotherhood, and they lied to me, yeah they lied to me

Love what you do, Michael. This is a to-the-point tune, and I share your point of view here, good sir.
Nicely done, btw. Like the flute and strings, and how you deliver the vocal. I have enjoyed listening, Michael.
