Monica is inspired by such legends as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Cleo Laine, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Lena Horne
and Carmen MacRae but makes the music she sings very much her own. Her voice is distinct and unforgetteable.
Monica was born in Romania and came to Canada with her family at the age of nine,at which time she began to study piano. She attained her degree in Piano Performance and Voice ant the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Engish Literature from York University.
Over the past year, she has been working with iconic music producer/pianist Bill King who produced her debut jazz album 'But Beautiful' ,released in June,2013 and available on iTunes. Bill put the finest renowned musicians in Canada together on this album with Bill
himself on piano, Duncan Hopkins-bass, Mark Kelso-drums, William Sperandei-trumpet, Annde Lindsay-violin, Reg Schwager-guitar and Luis Jorge Papiosco-percussion and was recorded at Inception Sound Studios in Toronto, engineered by the brilliant Michael Haas.
