This Road
by Sam Houston
I've been on this road so long I don't know
It's full of twists and turns and damned old potholes
And this hoss that I've been riding spooks and throws me all the time
With all things being equal it's a wonder that I'm still alive
Trying to look ahead through the fog and rain
Then take a look behind and live it yet again
And time keeps rocking on like an endless train
If you let it this old road will surely drive you insane
It's been here forever and will never go away
The best that you can hope for is to ride another day
Just lock and load and always watch your back
And don't believe too much that they say
Too often it ain't easy and it's seldom ever smooth
And misery loves company like whiskey loves a fool
You can take it fast or you can take it slow
But you got to watch your step on this road
