Mixed Up

I just wanted to let anyone that listens to my songs know that I realize that some of my recordings are less than good. I've talked with a few folks here about it and have been given some good advice and hints.

The problem is that I don't really have any recording/mixing experience to speak of, especially when dealing with multiple tracks.....and with dealing with recording digitally on a computer.....and with not having fancy equipment or software.....and with dealing with it just being me without a band.....and with.... Well, you get the idea. Recording this way is all new to me. I'm used to just showing up with a guitar, stepping up to the mic, and having somebody else deal with all the recording issues. I was always the one saying "this mix sucks" or "what are you getting paid for" or "are you freakin' deaf". But, as with most things, it's not always as simple when you're on the other side of the fence. (i didn't really say all those things.....I thought them.....but didn't say them....that i remember....probably....)

Anyway, I'm just saying that as soon as I can I will be re-recording some of my songs and hopefully they will turn out better.

I really appreciate that songdoc!!!!!
Oakie, I always enjoy hearing your songs when played on Mix radio. Seriously, the recording/mixing quality just isn't that important to me. I hear a lot of songs that are produced perfectly but don't touch my heart or soul; I'd prefer one of yours any day.
Well, one lil step at a time my friend. It will take some work but one day you will wake up and have that special Ah-Ha moment
Anyhoo, I'm pretty familiar with all the major hosts. Don't hestiate to PM me with any questions !
All my best
Gabriel
Okie, a good song stands out no matter the quality of the recording. But we all want to present our music the best we can so keep at it and it will get better. I still don't know much about PC recording...to this day I've yet to record anything in the PC box with software. I still use a stand alone digital recorder and just use my PC for mastering a finished song.
Good recordings will follow good songs.

Agreed mate on all points.
If I can help,sing out.
Nigel
While I 100% agree that content is most important, it is also very important that the song is represented well. The general public has no idea what it takes to write a song, sing a song, play a song, or record a song. But, they DO know what they like to hear. If a song isn't represented well then they won't listen. It's the equivalent to being on stage. You can have a killer song but if the timing is a little off or the mix isn't quite right, the audience will pick up on it, even if they know nothing about music.
Plus, I want my music to be as good as it can be under the current circumstances. I used to piss the band off, as well as studio guys, because I wasn't willing to settle. I wanted it right. I'm the same way when it's just me. I'll kick my own ass if I have to. :-O
But, that's actually a good thing. That's what pushes me forward and makes me try even harder.
...at this point in time Okie, "content" is more important than anything else... Takes years to figure out the recording shit...takes all but a few minutes to play a toon.
keep on playing them out.
Mate,don't sweat it.
If you heard what Ir ecorded during about the first 3 years of finding home recording, you'd suddenly relaise you ain't doing so bad.
Whatever you feel you are lacking will come through repatition, just like it did when you learned to play the guitar.
I don't know too much myself,as you can tell by my own music, but if I can help....
Don't worry about it mate,it will all work out fine.
Nigel
I appreciate it! And, I hope so.
hey oki!
forget about it! i don't know shit about this stuff eather! hahaha..
just remember! it get's better with time! keep up the great work bud!
peace,
Thanks WHP!!
But, I feel like I'm imposing if I ask someone else to do it. That's just how I'm wired.
Thanks Kalo! But I don't think any man is much of a man at all if they can't do that. It may not always be fun and it may not always be pleasant but it's the right thing to do.
