Disappointed

By Sam Houston, 2013-12-15

I have to say I'm fairly disappointed (I know....big surprise, right?). About a week ago I posted that I had completely re-recorded my song Trail Of Tears and used my newly acquired Tascam 8 track to do it. I believe the quality is so much better than any of my previous recordings. I also requested any feedback and/or advice for improvement, how it sounds, how is the mix, and what I might do different to make it better.

Since then, I have recieved one comment....only one. I'm trying to do all I can to improve the quality of my recordings and, in my opinion, I'm making good progress. But I need feedback and advice to continue improving. Mixposure is supposed to be all about feedback. I'm disappointed because I feel like I'm making every effort to improve the quality of my recordings and then get absolutely no responses back, except one. It's very disheartening.

So please, if you get a chance, please give Trail Of Tears a listen and comment. Please let me know what you think of the recording, the mix, and the overall sound of the song. I'm doing everything I can to improve on my recordings. But I need honest feedback in order to continue to improve. Please be honest and let me know what you truly think about the song, the mix, the sound, the quality, etc. I greatly appreciate it.

Updated Song

By Sam Houston, 2013-12-10

I updated my song Trail Of Tears. This is a song I wrote years ago and only had the terrible recording of it. I have now completely re-recorded it from scratch and I also used my Tascam 8 track. It's about a billion times better that it was. I'm also talking to a guy about adding steel or lap steel to it but we haven't got that done yet.

But please give it a listen. Also please give any feedback as it would be greatly appreciated. Also, please let me know what you think about my new recording procedure and how you think it sounds.

Waylon State Of Mind....2

By Sam Houston, 2013-11-04

I remixed Waylon State Of Mind (Audacity). Then ported four different versions with differing eq settings and remixed it on Tascam. I then mastered it on Tascam and compressed it in Audacity.

Please give the new version a listen and/or re-download the new version.

My Quality

By Sam Houston, 2013-10-20

So, I've officially caved. I believe I've gone as far as I can with the quality of my songs with what I've been working with for recording (outdated 32bit Windows XP computer and Audacity. I've gone to great lengths, in my opinion, to resolve recording issues and to improve quality. I now feel that I'm getting all I'm going to get with what I have. So, I officially caved, meaning I give up on attempting any further improvement with what I have. That being the case, I bought (at a pawn shop) a Tascam digital 8 track recorder with onboard effects, mix down capabilities, 40 gig internal hard drive, USB to computer hook up, CD burner, SD card slot, hi (1/4" plugs) and low impedance (2 XLR's with phantom power) inputs, faders-eq-punch in and out-effects send-gain-pan on all channels, multi-effects processor with guitar, bass, vocal and drum programs, stereo reverb processor with send/return controls for multichannel mixing, dedicated stereo master track for mixdown.
I have no idea how to use it and the owner's manual is 80 pages long. But I have it and will be attempting to record with it soon. We'll see how it goes. But hopefully this will resolve some of my quality issues....we'll see.

Song

By Sam Houston, 2013-08-29

I uploaded a new song called "Aint' No Grave".

The song Ain’t No Grave is a gospel song that was originally done by a guy named Claude Ely back in 1934 but he re-recorded it in 1941 and it was a hit for him. Johnny Cash did a version of it and it was also a hit for him. I think it was on the second to last album he did before he died.

There’s a young country gospel singer named Colby Perry from Scottsville, Kentucky that has a really cool version of Ain’t No Grave that he did. He was an American Idol Season 12 qualifier and is trying again this year. He contacted me a couple of days ago and wanted to know if I would add harmonies to his version of Ain’t No Grave. He sent it to me and I sat down last night and added the harmonies you hear on it. Check it out.
