Six String Vandals were born in 2002. Made up of two highly individual singer/songwriters, Richard ‘Oggi’ Osborne & Nige Fry they prove once again that ‘the sum total can far outweigh the contribution of the individual’. Dubbed ‘acoustic rock’, the combination of Nige’s driving, quirky rhythm guitar and Oggi’s eclectic lead riffing has found fans in the folk, rock and mainstream pop arenas and continues to defy traditional categorisation. The addition of powerful shared lead vocals and harmonies only adds to the uniqueness of their sound, which they have successfully transferred to the recording medium, capturing the vitality & energy of their live performances on CD’s and MP3’s produced in their own studio. Their original songs are all lean with no waste and feature strong vocals/harmonies, melody lines and hooks, as are their ‘vandalised’ versions of songs by such diverse influences as REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, Killers, Green Day, The Verve and Oasis that make up part of their gig sets. While their studio produced albums are receiving plaudits from such august bodies as the Guild of International Songwriters & Composers they remain a superb live act, recently appearing at the prestigious ‘Walk in the Park’ festival and completing their third Byfield music festival to all round critical acclaim. And, after two years back at grass roots level, playing local pubs and clubs, in 2008 they will be travelling further afield to promote their latest album. A brief, unhappy period attached to a now defunct Independent Label has led them to form WristAction Records to promote their own music, although they are still open to sensible offers from likeminded people!
This one is pulling away from your usual acoustic sound and I like it! Well done gentlemen.
