French Canadian composer Slarou utilizes jazz, classical, and experimental forms to create music that is axed on rhythmic and dynamic tension to create images Despite the primarily digital production of his compositions, the songs themselves are warm and emotionally evocative.
Slarou's compositions are sometimes supplemented by his vocals, often in a "Houlouboulou" language in which the syllables are sometimes French sounding and sometimes English sounding. The intent is expression of the music using voice as an instrument, rather than expression of lyrics through language. In Slarou's words:
