When I first set eyes on him The attraction was oh so strong And I know it's strange to say I felt I'd known him my whole lifelong
Like a case of Deja Vu As if our souls had once crossed path And when he said he felt it too It was all too good to be true
For the day would come when he'd go away He was only in this country on holiday
We'd talk and laugh the nights away And make love to the break of day And fall asleep in each others arms I felt so loved and secure from harm
Then my world came crashing down The day I feared had come too soon I wonder what my life would be If he'd stayed with me instead
Now sometimes I wish we had never met Because I've compared every lover with him
He took my heart, my soul, my light When he got on board that flight Broken Hearted And now he lives so far away How I wished that he had stayed Broken Hearted
More than twenty years have past And they flown by oh so fast He is often in my thoughts I hope his dreams have been surpassed
But I'm thankful to him, though it hurts to say To this day I've never loved that way again
He took my heart, my soul, my light When he got on board that flight Broken Hearted And now he lives so far away Oh how I wish that he had stayed I'm Broken Hearted

This is my first attempt at songwriting. My inspiration was a very memorable but all too brief relationship I had many years ago.
I sang the melody to Ralph Tyrrell of Indigo Dingo and he put music to it and recorded it. Many thanks to Ralph and to Leanne Farmiloe who played violin, also to Janet Robinson for singing backing vocals with me.

For a first attempt this is amazing. You have a gift for getting right to the point in a way that's easy to relate to. And you make it seem natural, which is maybe the hardest thing to do.
And your vocal performance is great too, surely this isn't your first attempt at singing?
Enjoyed this very much, please continue to write and record!

Your honesty and sincere heart energy are what come through most powerfully in your music. They are a great strength for any songwriter and will always make you stand out. For some reason you are reminding me of Kirsty Mac Coll in this one. What a sad tale to have found your soulmate and lost him again.

I am very new to songwriting and music production, although I have been in a number original bands over the past 30yrs, I have always sung someone else's music. Now I doing it for myself! For as long as I can remember I've sung. Grandma would have me sing 'music hall' songs standing on a table at 5 yrs. Mum studied at RADA, she acted in and directed many stage shows. So I followed suit & by the time I was 18 had performed in 20 stage shows.
In the 80's I was lead vocalist in 'Get Smart' & 'Pleasure Pulse' both bands based in Sydney. I've travelled to many countries including USA, India, Turkey, Thailand. I lived in London for 3 years doing 'temp' work, taking time off to travel around the UK, Ireland & Europe.
In 1992, shortly after having my first of three children I moved to Queensland's Sunshine Coast. The music went on the 'backburner' for a while with only social jams. In 2001 I joined 'Halkian' with Jo Peace & Bob Greaves. I was also in 'Indigo Dingo'. Both of these bands recorded CD's.
Recently, Jeff MacDonald who was the drummer in 'Pleasure Pulse' with me during the 80's, suggested I 'stand in' for their singer who couldn't do a gig due to family commitments. The gig was in Newcastle over 1000 kms away! I've been back a few times since then 'standing in' as lead singer.
