5lb. Piranha is a high energy power rock trio based out of Austin Texas. This band is a rowdy rock and roll rumpus that soars with the eagles and parties in the trenches. Their music swells and thunders, the mood can be biting and toe tapping as well as explosively exuberant and straightforward.

Described often as alternative rock with a punk metal edge, this band's music feels just as at home in a biker bar as it does in an upscale music establishment. Uplifting flavors spanning the musical landscape take a listener back to a time when straight forward rock and roll was king and the live show dominated. The only thing better than hearing them is seeing them live. This is the beauty of 5lbp's music and its testament to its ability to transcend the boundaries of culture and genres making it feel right at home in any musical situation. It's music with a bite and a party with a point.

5lb. Piranha's new album "Suffer for your Art" is inspired by multiple styles. Their willingness to move in and out of genres can be explained by their front-man Thawind Mills. His ability to carve out new paths, styles, and his ability to also get to the point with straight forward rock makes it difficult to narrowly categorize the music. They bring to mind the birth of the edgy legends of days gone by such as Zeppelin, Nirvana and The Who. With its truly awesome rhythm section this is a party band no doubt but the greatness comes in the passion.

They may be a contradiction in musical terms when they use sharp riffs and hooks to tear into you, just to switch gears and express a sweet love song. From the driven edge of calling it like it is to the greasy rock and roll that meets the love dead sensibilities in this calamity of life, they've got it in over-drive.

2014 looks to be an exciting year for 5lb. Piranha as they promote the recent release while composing new music for the follow up album.
