The Devil’s got His Hand Placed on My Shoulder
VERSE ONE
‘Naughty is, as naughty does’ my dear ole Ma used to say
And if there was a sign pointing to trouble, it was sure to point my way
I tried real hard to be good when I knew I was being bad
Like balancing on a tight rope deciding which side to take
VERSE TWO
Got quite a few living scars, but I’m a Godly kinda guy
And sadly temptation got in the way more than I can say
I fall into lust but never love, and find trouble at every corner
Got an Angel by my side while the devil’s on my shoulder
CHORUS
The devils got his hand placed on my shoulder
Like a puppet he’s been playing me like a fool
Well now I want to be guided by my angel
Stop hovering between Heaven and Hell
Devil on my shoulder!
VERSE THREE
I’ve got no laughter lines, but try to smile at life
Not one to suffer fools gladly and not one to give up my time
Try to be a charitable guy, but charity starts at home
Seem to battle with myself walking a path to Heaven and Hell
CHORUS
The devils got his hand placed on my shoulder
Like a puppet he’s been playing me like a fool
Well now I want to be guided by my angel
And stop hovering between Heaven and Hell
Devil on my shoulder!
BRIDGE
Some people come into this world born the Christian kind
And some want to walk that path, but find God is hard to find
Guess I’ve been a disappointment to nearly everyone I know
But when I hang up my boots I want to find myself in Heaven and not in Hell
CHORUS
The devils got his hand placed on my shoulder
Like a puppet he’s been playing me like a fool
Well now I want to be guided by my angel
And stop hovering between Heaven and Hell
Devil on my shoulder!
