Ah yes, October and days get shorter air gets colder , time to hide away in front of a computer and pen a few more tunes. <br /><br />Started on to work on finishing 3 tunes , "Enzyme", "Slow Burn Bad News" and "Head down"<br /><br />Ive asked for people to collaborate on these on a number of forums and websites and so far its seems like there is a bit of interest.<br /><br /> Im hoping to start three more through november and aim for another two over the December which would be going great guns . <br /><br />Hopefully there will be enough material to put a disc together for spring. Woot!<br /><br />Happy Hallowe'en
A couple of comments here recently about the blogs I write regarding the songs I write on the site where I put the songs I write. 8)
Well , maybe Im missing the point but I thought the blog was there to put your thoughts down for people to read?. If writing about the songs I post isnt relavant I dunno what is?
None of us here are gonna make a million bucks lads, we all have our reasons for doing what we do. I like to explain or give credit where its due in my blogs, I like to read how other people approach their tunes and what they where thinking.
Live and let live guys , its only a blogg , no more or less interesting than your average one around the place. If they seem superficial or full of **** fine no need to read em, Im happy to do my thing my way and dont wanna pi** on anyone elses parade.
Happy new year blog watchers
:D
This track was written and recorded in a few hours in terms of the music content. The guitar work was based around an idea I came up with experimenting with a few effects and from there it kinda fell together - the bass is literally an after thought. Al of it was done early in 2007 and Iv ejust revisited added little bass and bounced it , not with any great care I might add. I dont have the patience to mix it properly but it sounds ok for now , rather stick it up than keep[ it gathering dust heheh
I did the backing vocals in the chorus and a guy named Conor from Bravest Kid in School did the versus. Its pretty rough round the edges but overall its a god track for the small amount of time spent on it. kinda catchy? It reminds me of something but cant put my finger on it.
This is my effort to write , record and mix a track in one evening ... I failed but managed to finish it in two. My first effort at doing all the vocals myself , first night I couldn't hit the high notes on some of the parts but it managed to come together in the second attempt.
Its kinda funky upbeat thing with a nice chord progression in the chorus , pretty much threw this all together and seemed worth sticking up, its the last song I finished under the Linus Scheme, kinda got fed up waiting on collaborations to com together.
Most likely do a few more in 08 , will probably start with more solo efforts this time round to get more output going.
<p>I added these three tracks today cause they are all pretty different from each other and I like different things about each of them.</p><p><strong>Lost Sock(Late 05)</strong> is my attempt at blues , but its upbeat and didnt stay bluesy at all when I recorded it... yeah the irony isnt lost on me ...anyway its kinda humourous song made all the more so by the lyrics and vocals from my buddy Mark . Is it about my lost sock or a dirty woman ...who knows? -- All credit to doc J for the Bass!!!! </p><p><strong>Last Breath (Early 07)</strong> is kinda heavy , the mix isnt finished and needs a little work , I do some vox on this as does my pal Dave Horan , its a cool enough song. Kudos to Brian Horgan for his solo . </p><p><strong>Wah With Doc J (Music 200? Vox 05)</strong> - This is the only one I didnt write the music for and is more of an idea for a song than a complete composition, this was done a while ago- its gotta a kinda southern feel and is a bit like Sabbath or something to my ear . Anyway it was first attempt at singing in any serious way and as such I was happy enough as it gave me the confidence to try some more. Its not finished but theres ebnough here to build a decent track out of , we may get to it soon enough and re record and change the arrangement.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
So Ive uploaded this track cause Its one of my favorites and definitely one of my better sounding mixes. Its strange going through the older material I have , bits and pices saved all over the place... anyway Empty Pockets was written when I was pretty broke so hence the title ....I was listening to a lot of AIC at the time and asked my buddy Mark to do something in that vain vocally , I think it sounds prett good.
Mmmm what to write ...
So its July 26 '07 and Ive posted the first track of what I hope will be many , Ive recorded loads of stuff over the years and its scattered here there and everywhere, theres space for 15 songs here so I guess this would be a good place to store all my new ones...specially given the busy forum might make finding collaborators easier!
This track was another collaboration with Mark from the Crooks. I originaly meant this track to be more acoustically orientated but ended up whipping out my telecastet and it turned into an 80's type rock tune. I wanted to write something with Tom Petty in mind , I believe this is where Marks lyrics were inspried from.
The track was written over a few weeks and probably reprsents the most complete song I ever did for "the linus scheme" after empty pockets , that said we never completed layering the vocals which is a pity caus Mark is an excellent vocalist. For what it is I think I got value for Marks limited time he could contribute (Busy man as he is an all )
Mark plays the slide on this using his Sambora strat , an endless source of amusement to me hehe anyway I think its adds so much to the track.
