well my new love song YOU AND ME.. just got a remix.. i have a cold so my ears missed some hot spots in the first mix.. you know what? anybody else feel this? ballads with a lot of tracks are the hardest to mix it seems.. they move slow and all those tracks are tricky to adjust perfectly.. so easy for one word or note to be too loud.. so much space.. everything stands out.. gotta up this.. lower that.. ad naseum.. etc.. lol.. wonder what you all think of it?

my friends.. thank you.. got to love mixpo man!.. nigel you sure got a point there.. getting the punch on a loud rocker without crushing it under the weight of limiters and compressors is tricky business.. in fact i guess mixing in general is tricky business.. farrell you mixes are like all those who wrote something here.. excellent.. so you got my ear when you have something to say on the subject.. but man guys.. nigel.. 40 tracks? i can only dream of that.. my PC starts to glitch with 10 or 12 tracks (with fx on each) unless i freeze the fx all the time.. need a new PC.. lol.. cheers.. :-)

My ears ain't that great at picking faults,too many years in front of the speakers...

I find slower songs easier to mix.
They allow me more room.
It is not uncommon to hit 40+ tracks.

Rock songs,getting that punch,that's the tricky business.

Joe, you are exactly right.....ballads are a pain in the a$$ to mix. Everything is heard so clearly that it's easy for something to jump out or get covered over. So you think heck, I'll just throw some limiting or compression on to keep it all even and then you hear the limiter/comp working or you take the life and emotion out of the song. They are difficult to mix indeed and as you know I get to mix my share....while trying to keep all the silent, airy space and without making it sound empty. You've done that well with this song!
