I would like to personally thank all the reviewers who have taken the time to listen too and review Tribe Pendragon and Tribe World Ensemble and myself.
While right at this moment I am up to the armpits in artwork, record company and distribution palavers and all the publicity generating that goes along with the release [finally!] of the new album The Message Stick, I fully intend and indeed make a firm commitment to doing some reviews as soon as time allows me a breath.
My goodness that was a long sentence.....lol. Good luck everyone and its great to be here. I [and the band] will stay tuned and visit regularly, although we do need to generate some Southern Hemisphere shows and chat slots. I will be around more a little later in the process.
David P

Due to very recent events, I am left with no choice but to disable all downloads to my music and to the LISTEN site. I feel I must also add that all the music on my site is copyright and registered with the US registrar and is protected under international copyright laws.

Thanks for understanding !!!

Gabriel

Hello to all,

The genre "Classical":

I wonder what the definition of "Classical" music is, as the term is used online. When does a piece fall into the "Classical" genre?

When the online "genre committee" selected the "Classical" genre, I think they were expecting "performers" of standard literature, rather than today's "composers", to post their recordings online.

The description of "Classical", in Soundclick.com's "Music Charts and Genres" on its home page, begins with "Mozart and Schubert". Those performers of Classical music may have recorded for example, "Classical", "Baroque" or "Medieval" music, and would have a sub-genre under which to place their recordings, and have an accurate category for listeners to search.

The reason I feel that the "genre committee" was not expecting composers to enter these genres is, because these genres and sub-genre represent well defined historical periods during which all composers, who would have composed these genres, are now dead.

Before coming online "Classical music" for me meant - that music written during the historical "classical" period (approx. 1750 to approx. 1825).

I have seen on another website the definition that Classical music is music that is written down and passed on. But certainly there are fine Classical composers online who improvise using a sequencer and wouldn't know what to do with a notation program. In addition any genre of music can be written down. So, that shoots that definition.

The word "Classical " doesn't work. The problem is - none can agree on a suitable replacement for it.

I understand that the world at large, for lack of a better word, refers to this music as "Classical ".

In academia there is an unspoken agreement that - no one really knows what to call this music.

Some try calling it "Serious" music. This term pompously connotes that other types of music are not equally serious. Others call it "Concert" music. But certainly Rock music is performed in concert.

Tell me it's a matter of semantics. But "Classical" ain't the right word to describe all this music that has evolved, from one form to another, over the past 600 to 700 years - and still continues to do so.

-------------------------------------------------------

the sub-genre "Contemporary" Classical:

Most modern composers have settled on the term "Contemporary" music to represent what they do; but they have ignored the fact that other types of music are also contemporary.

When does something stop being "Contemporary" classical? Stravinsky & Copland were alive & well in the 1960's. Now, 45 years later, are they contemporary? Serial music dates to 1920's. Are the serial composers Schoenberg, Berg and Webern contemporary 85 years later? In 1898 Stravinsky was a young man while Brahms was in his last year. Why is Brahms not considered contemporary?

When does "Contemporary" end and something else begin?

Until the late 1800's, when European western civilization's music became very nationalistic, the evolution of music - regarding its form and harmony - followed just one strand. Mostly evolving in Germany and Austria, Bach led to Mozart to Beethoven to Shubert to Schumann to Brahms to Wagner to Mahler. In the late 1800's countries fostered their own nationalistic versions of the arts. There became a French style (Chopin to Frank to Faure to Debussy). In Italy, they were writing opera (Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini). The Russian style had composers such as Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Stravinsky, and later the Soviets had Shostakovich.

So, it was as long ago as the mid 1800's that this phenomenon that we call "Classical" music began simultaneously evolving in totally different directions and styles.

Once we hit the 20'th century it split further and further into different schools of thought and style, which had almost nothing to do with each other. There was serial composition, atonality, aleatory, polytonal, electronic, neo-classical, neo romantic and later minimalism.

There are as many types and styles and categories of this music as there are composers who write it and as there are pieces that they write.

my best to all,
michael palmieri

Michael Palmieri©2006

First I wanted to welcome all of the new members to Mixposure.com! If you have not already done so, please stop by the Introduction Forum and tell us a bit about yourself!

Thanks to Venuestudio for helping the artists out here and mixing all the songs you have done! Kent is a mod here and co-moderates the Recording Studio forums with Beerhunter. If you need a song remixed, post a message in the Help Mix My Song Forum. We have an upload server setup so you can send him the full wav files and not smaller mp3 files. Kent is not charging for this and will do it as time permits. He has done numerous songs for the members here and for that we all thank you!!

Our apologies for the Same Song Title Madness version 10!! With everything that went on recently, we dropped the ball. The winning title was I KNOW TROUBLE. We will still use that song title and let's set a new due date of August 2nd. If you have not participated in one of these before the concept is simple. Everyone creates a song using that song title. It can be any genre you like. Vocals are not mandatory but help sell the song better! This is a great opportunity to collab with some of the members here!!

As we announced before, we are running a Contest for July! As many people know, what makes this site unique is the members and song reviews! Many sites are just a storage bin for your music. Let's face it, we want to know what people think of our music. So for the top reviewer for July, we have decided that the person with the most reviews will have their account upgraded to a Premium Account. The Premium Accounts are not much different than the Basic Account other than they allow more songs and videos. We did not want people to have to pay to have all the features offered here. We would have liked to make this a 100% free site but that was just not possible.

If you are knew to reviewing and are just not sure what to say, these may help! Remember, the best thank you that you can give for receiving a song review is to give one back in return!!

Strength of hook/title:
Originality:
Appeal:
Focus:
Phrasing/cadence:
Arrangement:
Musicianship:
Strength of Melody/prosody:
Vocal delivery:
Backing vox:
Collaboration effort:
Recording mix/technical:

Also, we made a slight change on the site some of you may have noticed already. Fans must be approved now and will not be auto-approved. You will be notified via private message that you have pending fans.

As a reminder, I hope everyone is getting involved with 2GuysTalking and their hunt for the best songs of 2008! Click the banner for more information!

The Mix Crew!

Happy 4th of July! Be safe out there tonight everyone!

I wanted to take a moment and welcome all of the new members that have signed up recently. Welcome aboard! Please stop by the Introduction Forum and tell us a little bit about yourself.

I have had a lot of emails and private messages of support for resurrecting the Mixposure.com domain name. It was a pricey investment but I hated to see it sitting there with stupid ads on it. We may not be the Mixposure of old but I hope with your help we can build something even better.

I have been a member on many different music sites and have never found one with the caliber of musicians on this site other than MySpace and Soundclick. But let's face it, we are all on those sites! So I thank everyone for being here!

Oh, we kind of spaced the Same Song Title Madness with everything that was going on. Stay tuned and we will set a new date.

Thanks,
Dazed

The evening of 9, 11 I wrote Flight 93. I had the entire company there to listen and record it. It was getting very late and we were all still watching the TV as the evening wore on between tracks. Living in New England at the time made it all the more intense as everyone there knew someone lost in the disaster. I had friends there and was trying to get in touch all day to no avail. We finished flight 93 around 10PM and started to play and sing my country almost like a prayer. We were all the emotional wreckage of the day and the music kept us from losing it altogether. The voices you hear are myself, my son John (the younger), Sean Galooli, and Sara Tallarico.
One of the company knew a very popular disk jockey in that market, Steve Valentine, and called him to let him know what was going on at the studio. He showed up around 11:30 and we recorded this tune just as you hear it now. I mixed it and Flight 93 back to back, gave a copy to Steve around 12:30 and it was on the air in that market at 1AM 9, 12 where it remained in rotation for 2 weeks.
It helped to heal us all and I hope sincerely it has the same effect for you on this Independence Day.
Regards to all in this house. Have a safe and happy holiday
John
