GUARDIANS OF THE GROOVE " LIVE"
IT`S FRIDAY FEB. 1ST 2008, SO I THOUGHT WHAT BETTER TIME TO INTRODUCE YOU TO MY FUNK BAND "GUARDIANS OF THE GROOVE".
A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE REQUESTED TO HEAR MORE "LIVE DICARLO" TRACKS, SO HERE YOU GO.
THIS IS WHAT I DO WHEN I`M NOT WORKING IN THE STUDIO. :D
ONE OF THE BEST FUNK BANDS I`VE EVER HEARD OR HAD THE PLEASURE TO WORK WITH.
THIS IS AN EDITED VERSION, OF THE 20 MINUTE VERSION.
HOPE YOU ENJOY IT. :D
BAND MEMBERS.
CRAIG BURTON; LEAD VOCAL, TONY HURDLE; TROMBONE, FUASI ABDUL KALIQ; SAX, DANIEL; TRUMPET, ARENO ANNUKU; GUITAR, RAMANI KRISHNA; 7 STRING OVERWATER BASS, SAMBA SOCK; PERCUSSION, DICARLO; DRUMS, AND SPECIAL GUEST TROY AFFLICK; VOCAL.
RECORDED LIVE WITH WAVLAB ON A NOTEBOOK IN STEREO BY THE SOUNDMAN JULY 2005.
MASTERED BY DICARLO FOR ONLINE MIXING AND MASTERING.COM
NOTE; THIS IS JUST A TEST MASTER.
DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ORIGINAL MIX WASN`T THAT GREAT, AND THE DRUMS AND BASS WERE RECORDED TOO LOW, I HAD TO WORK WITH THE EQ`S TO GET THE BASS AND DRUMS UP TO A DECENT LEVEL.
THIS WAS A DIFFICULT PROCESS, BECAUSE THE HORNS AND THE SNARE DRUM ARE NEARLY THE SAME FREQUENCIES, SO IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO BRING UP THE SNARE WITHOUT EFFECTING THE HORNS, ESPECIALLY THE TROMBONE.
BUT I MANAGED TO BRING BOTH THE BASS AND DRUMS UP TO WHERE THEY SOUND PRETTY GOOD.
I REALLY WISH I COULD HAVE MIXED THIS, BUT YOU CAN`T PLAY DRUMS IN A BAND AND MIX THEM AT THE SAME TIME. :D LOL
This cool review by mike milillo led to this blog.. to answer his question as to the concept of this composition.. the reasons why it was created thusly..
"Hello Mr. Quick,
I enjoy anything that allows the mind to not be encompassed by tradition or an institutionalized way of thought. I would like to hear why you wrote specifically the way you wrote this. I understand the title to some degree, I just would enjoy the mind behind it. The serial classical overtones are lovely. Does the chaotic interlude have a specific purpose as in the New World Order?
I did enjoy it!"
mike.. the whole song description is this:
new world order was written during the first gulf war in 1991.. george bush senior proclaimed it..
(a new world order) we have since only shamed it.. more broadly it depicts in antiphonal form the continuing saga of a frail misguided humanity (as portrayed by the wind quintet) versus the relentless might of the industrial/military complex jugernaut (portrayed by the electronic instruments).. pt.2, although written and performed in 1991 intutively seemed to fit gulf war part 2 under george bush junior.. a show was made live on CNN.. SHOCK AND AWE it was billed.. how appropriate my part 2 then.. the unexpected explosions in the midst of an unsuspecting humanity (the wind quintet).. in 1991 we didn't have the quality of samples (especially for the classical instruments) that we do now.. I did like the heavy metal like smashing rhythms though and thought they portrayed the war machine quite well.. I performed everything on the keyboard live one part at a time via midi into Motu's digital performer as i was on Macs back then.. I have never used quantizing, preferring to manually adjust all the details.. that's what I remember.. I only had a cassete of the piece and so with 2 shure sm58s in front of my ghetto blaster I recorded into audition and then converted to mp3.. considering the primtive nature of the preservation of this piece.. I think it sounds damn good.. LOL..
thanks for asking mike.. and for the reviews...

Hey guys I am going to open this up to see who is interested. I want to get some writers involved on the site. What I am looking for is a few people who would be interested in writing a column for iMS. pI have some ideas for topics but am more curious to hear what you think would be helpful.

Here are some that I added that Floridamusic did before I created a separate page for so you can get an idea.

Examples

So if you ever wanted to be a writer, please send me a message and let me know your ideas.

Thanks!

Dazed

Belated Happy New Year to everyone on ims. It's still summer over here and I've been taking a very extended break and haven't been around.
I''m now back in harness at work and look forward to catching up on the tracks I've missed. In the coming weeks I will be posting some acoustic tracks I recorded just before Christmas. Although I love playing in the one-man band context, it's not a way to promote one's own material. So I've decided to try the "acoustic route" with a view to maybe picking up some pub/club work and hopefully getting some festival work. I'm told we have a big festival circuit out here where even someone with my limited talents might get a gig in the tent down the back alley.
The tracks are a combination of new tracks, some collabs with Lex Zaleta and some of the track from my CD "NIC" which I've pared back to acoustic versions.
I recorded the CD in one day and pretty well did it as I would "live" playing guitar and singing at the same time. So there are some forgotten lyrics, some bum chord changes and you probably wouldn't want to put a metronome on any of the tracks. There were 16 tracks recorded, but one, Unvictorian Victoria, has some real guitar issues and will probably be deleted from the final CD.
I didn't record the CD for sale. I really did it for promotion. I'll be getting a short run pressed for distribution to community radio stations and promoters ets. I'll make all of the tracks available for free download in here.
Hope to catch up with everyone in coming days/weeks/months.
BTW many thanks for all the kind birthday wishes yesterday. Thanks for rubbing in the fact that I'm an old man and getting older.
Cheers to all
Brian
