Welcome to my music page here at the Internet Music Scene. As I continue recording I am just a couple of months from releasing my twelth CD "The Great Northwest".

I am keeping with a change of style. I am going to chase I mix of New Age and Rock to come up with a sound such as early Pink Floyd, or Tangerine Dream. I will continue to post new songs here on this site as they are finished.

My music is mix of many genre's and I write and perform all music on each track. My music has been said to be a mix of early Kansas, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons and Tangerine Dream and Jethro Tull. Weird mix I know but I never know how a song will turn out until I get to working on it.

I hope you enjoy some of the tracks I have posted from my CDs, I have made them all free for you to download. You can email me at studio1@surfnorthwest.com with any comments.

Biography
I started playing guitar at the age of 12 while my father was stationed in Germany. My teacher was a older German lady who was very strict and disciplined.

At the age of 14 I was back in the USA and took up playing bass for our Jr.High Jazz band. This took me into my first rock band as a youth playing bass.

As I enterered high school my family relocated to Washington State and once again I found myself playing both bass and guitar in a new band. Once I graduated from High School I got more serious with a couple of bands playing hard rock and 70s rock. The era was 1979-1983 and we all know what those times were all about.

As time went on into the eighties I found myself married with kids and all that goes with that, so my playing days were over. Dreams shattered but happy to be a father and choose the family life over late nights with hang overs. I did not play with a band for about four years. In about 1992 I regrouped with the band Rickashay and rocked hard for about 3 years, however the demands of work and family forced me to bow out of the band scene once more.

As time went by I found myself turned off by playing cover tunes and started to focus on writing my own music, it was some years later (2002) that I started recording in my home. Technology and software had advanced where one guy could do all the music in a song himself. It was then I took up playing the keyboards which I enjoy as much as playing guitar.

Beginning in 2004 I released my first CD called "Yesterday Pass" which was a collection of songs I wrote while playing in Rickashay. Since then there have been five other CDs released with my music with the seventh to be released in May of 2008. My style has started to move away from hard rock more into New Age (I hate that term) or Alan Parsons type music.

I hope you can take a moment to check out some of my music and post comments with any suggestions harsh or otherwise. My days of being in the limelight are way over and I simply have songs coming out of my head everyday, until that gift from God stops I will continue with my love of music and record my ideas.

Regards, Surf

My influences
Robin Trower - Kansas - Michael Schenker - Pink Floyd - Alan Parsons - David Arkenstone - Tangerine Dream - Jethro Tull

Favorite Spot
Playa Del Carmen Mexico

Hobbies
ATV riding, my German Shepherds, water sports, and of course recording

Equipment used:
- Fender Custom Shop Custom Deluxe Strat
- Godin LGX-SA
- Gibson Les Paul Historic VOS
- Carvin CT6C
- Carvin ICON 4 Bass
- Roland Fantom X6 Keyboard
- Yamaha MOTIF ES Keyboard
- Korg TR-88 Keyboard
- Roland GR-20
- Yamaha Drums
- Fender HotRod Deluxe Amp (Modified)
- Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 Amp
- Marshall JMD1 100 watt
- Metropoulos Amplification 69 Superlead Plexi
- Granger M-50 Plexi
- Marshall 1960BX 4x12 cabinet w/G12H-30
- Marshall 1960BX 4x12 cabinet w/G12M-25
- Marshall 425B 4x12 cabinet w/Vintage-30
- Marshall 425A 4x12 cabinet w/G12C-25
- Carvin 4x12 cabinet w/Hellatone 30s
- Carvin BX500 Bass Amp
- Cakewalk SONAR 8.5 Producer
- Waves Mercury Bundle
- Digitech Vocalist Live Rack
- RME Fireface 800
- JBL Studio Monitors
- Monster Cables
- AKG, Royer and Shure Mics
- Assorted pedals and Effects

Anything else...?
I am still a sinner but through the blood of Jesus I have been saved and have been forgiven.

Well, I have some good news and I have some bad news...

The good news is that I have a new song posted since the last time I made a Blog entry. The bad news is that even though it's not finished, I think it's done being worked on. The tune I was doing with FP is called Reach Out and it's posted. Unfortunately, FP lost some files for it, and I lost my way (and inspiration) for it. So, there is new music, but it's not as good as it could have been. I was thinking of hiring as full orchestra. I was going to have FP singing a full-out duet with Faith Hill. And... and... Uhhh....

Okay, maybe not, but I did have more ideas for it (think Theremin, maybe a Sitar-esque track, and it needed a real drum track). But coulda, shoulda, woulda is no way to go through life. So, I'll take my bruises for giving up on the tune and move on.

Go listen to the new tune and let me know what you think. I've posted some of my older tunes for the time being - go have a listen as they will surely disappear once I get The Donster Project machine fired up again

Still working on the tune with WildHoneyPie. That will be finished/posted in the not-so-distant future.

'My Dash Between the Numbers' became a work in progress in 2006. After opening up my own recording studio in May 2004, I decided it was time to finally release a CD. I originally opened up my own music school (www.SISchoolofRock.com). I then combined and incorporated recording (on PC's) to the music lessons. After seeing the school do well I figured I would open a recording studio (www.SORStudios.com to interact with the lessons. Watching this new generation of kids play and record got me thinking it was time to do this again. After over 20 years as a musician/guitar player, I had resolved to doing it part time. With a family to support, I knew it was time to get a dental plan. Although retired from wanting to be a 'Rockstar', I continued to play for hours a day. Opening up the music school and recording studio kept me in the game. Having taught for a good part of my life, I opened the school and studio up to have my own students teach and run the place. This also gave me the flexability to go in and use the recording studio anytime I wanted. Here came the idea to do my first CD.

Within a year I finished up the CD and figured I may as well give it away. I know hundreds of people who thought they'd sell a thousand CD's, to have only sold a handfull. I couldn't think of a better way to get my music out there. This album was purely done for the love of playing. No other intentions.

The recording: My Bass player is Adam Reich. He was one of my students. He came to me at 10 years old, and has grown up to be quite the musician. He also helped engineer the CD too. Rob Racalbuto plays drums on the CD. Rob and I grew up together in Brooklyn. He is considered one of the best. All of the music was recorded at www.SORStudios.com. We use SONAR software to record everything at SOR Studios. On the guitar end, I use Paul Reed Smith guitars, with Soldano SLO amplifiers. The guitars are mic'd with Royer ribbon MIC's. You CANNOT beat a Royer Ribbon MIC. As I was told by a guy at Sweetwater Music, you don't use a Soldano and PRS guitar and MIC it with a shure 57! He was completely right. I also use Manley Preamps. The warm tone of the Manley Pre's are very hard to beat! For Mixing, I have an old buddy of mine, Dave Saronson do my mixing. Dave does all the famous people. For more info on Dave (www.luvthenoiz.com). Dave 'knows' my tone. He knows it so well that if he feels it is not on, he'll tell me! I love that about him.

If you'd like any more info on Mike: www.GrandeLand.com

Hey all, I hope everyone had a great long weekend. For me, it gave me a chance to start finalizing our new track "Leaving the Past Behind". This song was written about my daughter Chelsea's high school graduation this past year.

I still haven't figured out how to embed the player into a post like this so in the meantime you will have to visit our song page on our site.

Cheers, Lonnie

PS - the mix is still a little rough but the polish will be done shortly.
