Hey Mixfamily, All I do is completely indie, and on a budget. I'm just trying to make a footprint for my music, basically, and I'm striving for these projects to come into their own. Please check out what I've done up 'til now, but also please keep in mind that this is a small portion of my creative energy.. I write all the time, and I'm a perfectionist, but I'm also caught up in this thing called the "Real World".. Duty calls, and I'm wrappin' up a degree, and working and such, so just know that this is my side project of ideas, etc. that I do when I have time. I'm all over the place... Hope you are too. :] Peace. ~Derek (and the Occasions)

P.S.-more is always right around the corner you don't look

So, basically I'm a new kid on the block. I've been around the block a few times as of lately, but nobody's really noticed me or my message (and that's to be expected). In my short 4-year span of teaching myself how to play guitar and developing my own style and writing techniques, I've learned a lot. I know what it's like to be dirt poor, but still getting by; I know what it's like to have invested my passion, time and love into the wrong places; and I know that I have always thought of my music as simple conversation. If you can relate, that's what matters most to me as an artist.. It surely isn't the money (I've found a day job for that), and I don't know if I would ever personally wish to be famous- instead, what I want most is just to have a conversation with you, where, instead of talking, I've recorded a little ditty for ya. Just like conversation, though, the mere fact that I can speak (or sing in this case) doesn't make me worth listening to. I've learned most of my lessons the hard way, so it always seemed natural to me that getting my music out there would be much the same in method.. I'm all Indie, and I'm not going to lie- I write and sing for me. Now, call me selfish, but that's not really the case because in doing so, I give a piece of myself to you. What you do with that, my song, is your decision.. If I collect figurative dust in your iTunes, fine; if I'm in your Top Plays, thank you. All forms of help, support, and love both big and small are always appreciated on my end and it's nice to know that open ears can still be connected to open minds. It's nice to meet you, and I'm not too hard to find if you want a real 1-on-1 conversation.

Best,

Derek Olson
