When I was a young boy, I thought I could fly,

Sure frightened my mama, every time I would try,

But brown paper wings, didn't lift me at all,

And I never knew, there was so far to fall,

Spent my youthful fortune, chasing fortune and fame,

Swore I'd get lucky, somewhere late in the game,

And I lived my life, for the sake of a song,

I never knew, deadend roads, could roll on so long,

I took my chances, all alone on on the hill,

Braved your advances, resisted your will,

When you said you loved me, in spite of it all,

I let go my illusions, and just watched them fall,

And I fell in love, despite the devil's best call,
