An Abbeyville Road Production for the Jiminy Jazz Suite
Robin Work started singing professionally at the age of 19. Her first musical experiences were with pop, R&B and other comercial ensembles. She even did a 7 year stint with a show band traveling the East Coast and into Canada. Listening to her, you'll find it hard to believe she's not been singing jazz all of her life. Her love affair with jazz however, began years ago when musical friends introduced her to the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holiday. Robin was exposed to and consequently supported by the thriving jazz community in Central Pa. She has been featured at several Mellon Jazz Festivals, the COTA jazz festival as well as other jazz venues including the Deerhead Inn. Her experiences have also included singing with a variety of big bands and small ensembles. Pure Imagination, her first recording in jazz vividly displays her talent. Jim Wilke, host of Public Radio's International "Jazz After Hours" was quoted in the liner notes as saying" Robin is posessed with a honeyed voice and horn like phrasing as well as a rhythmically secure and swinging delivery". .
