Spicy Folk are a contemporary song writing duo forging a unique blend of British and American sound into a special kinda spicy folk music.
The group, consisting of Raven (vocals) and Lee (guitar), first came together from opposite sides of the planet in 2011 via an online music collaboration site. The duo quickly developed an explosive musical relationship and in 2013 made the decision to put out their own spicy brand of acoustic art in the form of a debut album entitled, “If Fishes Were Wishes,” due for release in December this year.
Raven is a singer/lyricist, born and raised in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn, New York; a neighborhood known for its flavorful & diverse culture and eclectic music. Some of Raven’s earlier vocal influences include Barbra Streisand, Donna Summer, Cyndi Lauper and Bette Midler. “I remember putting on little concerts for my Great Grandmother singing silly jingles and songs from commercials”.
In 2001, Raven teamed up with Primal Groove Records to collaborate on the Soul Prophecy album. Her single, ‘I Know You Love Me’ was a hip fusion of Deep House and Soul. Over the years, Raven has collaborated on hundreds of songs with various musicians from around the world. Her vocal style is a blend of sugar & spice – it varies from raspy to smooth giving her a memorable uniqueness. Raven’s vocal range has been compared to Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Ann Wilson.
Lee is a guitarist and songwriter who in his early years was heavily influenced in all respects by artists such as Van Halen, Steve Vai, Dire Straits, The Police, and the Beatles, as well as his own father, a talented classical guitarist. Lee’s enthusiasm for creating and recording his own music stems from early experiences as a guitarist playing in bands and bars across the UK and fond memories of recording his first all-original, professionally produced, ten track demo album at age 17. Today, Lee continues to pursue his interest in music composition and production. He holds a professional certificate in Music Production from Berklee online and a certificate in audio engineering from the Audio Institute of America.
Together they combine the ingredients of Folk, Contemporary & Rock - for an unforgettable sound, which is Spicy Folk!
