Biography

Riverside, IL an historic old world town, dotted with dimly lit gas street lights and winding wooded roads is where it all began for singer/songwriter/guitarist/bassist/producer and even sometimes drummer, Greg Wallace.

Greg expressed his love for music at an early age, becoming a self - proclaimed rock n’ roll aficionado of all the bands that he knew and loved by the time he was in the eighth grade. Following the path of all his mentors, Greg started playing guitar and bass guitar in high school and switched off instruments in many various rock, punk, and metal bands with different classmates. By his junior year, his band X-N-Trick had produced their own 4 song E.P. of all their own music. Greg played his first real gig at the legendary “Thirsty Whale” in River Grove, IL. one of Chicago’s premier rock clubs, not bad for a kid who didn’t even drive yet. He continued to play the Chicago club circuit in various different outfits at many different venues in and around the city.

It wasn’t until he formed Gracelake, a power pop-folk-rock band, that Greg came into his own as a songwriting force. He switched to the guitar and harmony vocals primarily, instead of the usual bass guitar duties of his past acts. His old new-found instrument really thrusted the band into a unique modern progressive rock sound all of its own. Their self-produced E.P. caused quite a stir among peers and generated some promoter interest. Unfortunately, due to personal and musical issues the band folded before they could capitalize on their new found sound and Gracelake was no more.

Greg continued on to form numerous bands that launched with high expectations but never seemed to gel as he had envisioned. It wasn’t until after many fruitless attempts of finding a lead vocalist and writing partner that Greg decided to take on all those roles himself and pursue a solo career. That’s exactly what he did, only to discover he had found his true calling in a musical situation that he had always hoped for. His blend of power pop and heavy folk rock is really something very original that people of all ages can enjoy. His love for just a well written, “good old fashioned pop song”, definitely shows thru with a modern rock awareness that highlights all of his unique and very diverse influences.

In a world of the post-alternative manufactured rock sound, which has run its course on modern radio today, lies a beginning for Greg Wallace, a genuine artist and unique musician, who definitely has something to say.
