Dingos in the Desert

I originally started out playing keyboards but switched to mandolin and dobro (and my son Corrin took over the keyboards role).<br>These days "Dingos" just get together to play specific gigs and the line-up is quite fluid. Corrin often now plays mandolin as I live quite some distance from the rest of the band and don't play on some gigs.<br>"Woolshed Dances" are one of the fortes of the band and over the years this has taken us to some pretty unusual gigs - here is just one of them. </font><p class="MsoNormal"><font size="3">Glenelg Rock Narembeen: </font></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><font size="3">We set out early in two cars to travel the 175 miles to Narembeen. On arrival we were told that the dance was not in the Town Hall as we'd been told but to be held in the open air a "few" miles out of town.<br>"You go down that road a bit until you come to a "T" junction and then you turn left".....<br>So we went down that road about 25 miles!.....<br>"Then you go up that road a bit until you come to a dirt road".....<br>5 more miles.....<br>"Then you follow the dirt road for a bit until you come to a big granite rock".....<br>Another 5 miles.....<br>"And then you're there"<br>It was a huge granite outcrop about 50 ft high and several acres in area. At the bottom was parked a semi with a flatbed trailer. The stage. A hundred yards or so away was parked another truck with a generator on it. The power. No people.<br>Anyway we set up and did a soundcheck. Still no people.<br>It got dark.....<br>And then down the dirt road came a procession of more than a hundred headlights. The entire population of the little town of Narembeen was coming to the dance.<br>With the dust from a hundred cars still in the air we launched into our first set. At first only the women and children danced while the men stood in the shadows beyond the lighting and drank beer.....<br>Now the dust of a hundred cars AND two hundred pairs of dancing feet was in the air.....<br>The first set over, we gathered around the BBQ for some dinner.....<br>Then into the second set. The beer was starting to take effect and several of the braver men joined the dancing. The dust grew thicker. By now the audience was just a dusty haze.....<br>The second set over, WE gathered round and drank some beer.....<br>Now it was the last set and everybody was dancing. The dust was so thick we couldn't see each other, let alone the audience.<br>Finally around midnight the dance was over and the 100 car convoy departed for the 30 mile trip back to town. As the dust cloud settled we packed up and set out on our 225 mile return trip.<br>One of the cars ran out of petrol. They had to camp the night.<br>In the leading car we didn't know about their problem. We were listening to Pink Floyd.....<br> Almost 24 hours after setting out we returned home.</font></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><font size="3"> </font></p>

Reviews

By bdfutch, 2008-02-25

Just wanted to publicly state my thoughts regarding the review process here. I was reviewing a new song that had been recently posted and came across something that really bothered me. The reviewer saw that the poster had not done any reviews and publicly attacked him for not participating in the review process. One of the reasons this bothered me is because I've been on the receiving end of this kind of attack and it was completely unfounded. People post their songs on this website for many different reasons, none of which any of us are privy too unless the person declares their reasons to us. Some post because they enjoy the sense of community here, that includes me. Some post because they want to have a place for friends and family to have access to their songs without the bother of sending large files through email or burning cd's to snail mail. Whatever their reason, they post. Some of these people pay for the extra benefits included with the package. Being coerced into doing reviews because you're worried about being called to the carpet does not produce honest, heartfelt reviews. It produces quick, cookie cutter reviews that end up being shallow, however honest, to get your review count up. Sorry, I don't subscribe to this. I think the public humiliation angle will hurt this site. If you've got a problem with someone, it would be better to privately message them to get it straightened out. You might find out that their situation might be different than yours. Maybe they don't have the time that you have to sit down everyday and listen to ten or twelve songs. There may be long stretches of time where their life is just so busy, they don't have time at all to listen and review. Whatever the reason, who are we to judge? You may disagree with me, that is your perogative. It is just my opinion that these "public" displays of disaffection does a disservice to the community as a whole. There, I said my piece.

Inside Too Out Sly and Main Pie

By sly puppy, 2008-02-24
Inside Too Out Sly and Main Pie

Well heres a musical answer.

This track is the first featuring Main Pie.
Its taken for a collection that myself and Mark are working on at present with (for me anyway)a view to hopefully getting a CD out there.

This one is probably one of the gentlest of the tracks we've been working on so far.It also features some of the finest guitar I've managed to get onto any of my tracks-so thanks Mark !

Those that listen to nexus radio may have heard some of the other work in progress tracks songs like :Sgt.Dime Bar,My Baby Love, amongst others .

What I can say is that there will be other great musicians helping out on some of these songs :The Devils Reward and :And Do You have bass added to them by two superb bass players Jim and Rob.....those are nearing completion.

So I have been busy :I've also been mixing/producing demo tracks for my great friend and fellow artist Ian K who has just released his 1st ep and is currently working on a full blown album release for later in the year. Agian some will remember the collab myself and Ian di as Silverhorse:well his new stuff is a million miles from Silverhorse ! but retains much of its electro sensibilty (Oxygen aside) .

just some words

Sly

Hey Everybody... This was a song I was unsure about...I sent it to Peter and he added a bass line and background vocals and then did a great mix as well.....Peter is a great and talented guy and I can't thank him enough for all his help..He really did an incredible job with the raw tracks I sent...I'm hoping to do some more stuff with him in the future and I just can't thank him enough for the kindness he showed me....This song, like all my songs comes from the heart and Pete made it sound the way it should sound.....Kudos to Peter Mercer.. :)

New album, W.I.P/ Work In Progress

By Treegreenblue1, 2008-02-23
New album, W.I.P/ Work In Progress

After a short time, which seemed a bit longer perhaps, the time has come to release and upload my latest album, W.I.P/ Work In Progress.

Some of you have probably heard atleast few of the tracks in it already, but some of them are "available" for the first time ever.

With no surprises the album contains 9 tracks of trance, hope you enjoy and hopefully I hear your comments aswell.

W.I.P/ Work In Progress finished, quite illogical sentence which makes perfect sence :)

SUNDAY? AGAIN? TOTAL REQUEST NIGHT!!!

By Wizard Sleeve, 2008-02-23
SUNDAY? AGAIN? TOTAL REQUEST NIGHT!!!

This Past week or so I have been experimenting with the Broadcaster and Learning how to write scripts for it, to make broadcasting alot easyer for me. I have actually got to the point with the scripting where I could have a complete Auto-show where people can request stuff, it will add it to the playlist, plus run certain themes at certain points in the show... although problems will arise because people don't tag there tracks properly... I'm even guilty of the the GENRE tage being wrong.. I just leave all my stuff as DnB untill i do the final final mixdown, so if i did a DnB segment on the auto who knows what kinda stuff might crop up. Most stuff isn't even tagged or in a genre.

Bascially in tonights show i would like you all to participate in the new REQUEST page. its listed in numbers and from A-Z, it shows 25 results per page by default, but you can select it to show 50 or even 100.. down the bottom is the "next page" function if you want to see more in that particular number/letter.

What I am going to try and do is get everything tagged properly. Lots of tracks from soundclick are not tagged at all, but luckily from soundclick the filenames are artistname+songname.mp3 so it is easy enough to edit... I have found that I have hundreds of tracks, mainly from mixposure, that are not tagged properly at all.. especially when i used to do the mixposure top 10... so i have tagged those tracks Mix top 10 7 sept 06 - track name for now.. I might delete all the mixposure top 10 tracks all together.. but there are a few in there I know I would miss.

Anyway I would like help Tagging the tracks up properly, if you notice something playing, or in the playlist that is tagged wrong, please let me know either in chat or email.

Also if you notice any tracks making the stream go crazy please let me know straight away and the track will have to be completly removed from my harddrive.

Other than that, the show is down to your REQUESTS - You can browse my playlist and request stuff live on air by following this link: http://www.nexusradio.co.uk/samPHPweb/playlist.php.

You got some tunes and wanna get in to the action? Well email your stuff, or links to where we can download your stuff to all the DJ's - you can contact them on the following email addies:

Tonights show starts at 8PM GMT (thats 3PM EST) you can see the schedual: http://www.nexusradio.co.uk/schedual.html but the finish times are just a rough guidline, most shows go on ALOT later than that..
