Interesting dialogue here and it is not the first time I have encountered the old Mix v new Mix debate that one of the newer people, ie me, would appreciate some incite to (if only by private message). I am not in the habit of necessarily promoting anyone's concept but I have tried other sites, Soundclick, The Sixtyone, Stereofame and I had a look in at Looperman the other day. Perhaps my standards are rather high and the cynicism of age plays a big part but 2 things are important to say 1. Unless someone is going to discover something really unanticipated in the world of pop music, nothing is ever again going to sound revolutionary, live or in any recorded format 2. the other sites are a mixture of dead, dumb and computer nerd juvenile. So if there is some stupendously better version of Mixposure in people's memory or imagination, I would be interested to hear about it. In friendship to all Mix users. ftlpope

If you explained to most people the idea of a community open to the whole world (with the big provoso that you have a computer) where artists give away their 'work' for free, if it were not for the fast diminishing hippie ethic which most people still vaguely know about, they would say they are crazy. However, sites like Mixposure generally have people who participate mainly for the community spirit to those who post their music free with the sole purpose of selling it. The consensus seems to be that this is the model. The other day I noted and commented on someone who had apparently taken up membership only to advertise a record via a link. Dazed asked the person to upload a song and they did. Perhaps that artist will now participate in the community. It got me to thinking about another artist a few months a go who posted a number of tunes deliberately chopped so that we could only hear a part of the tune let alone not download it. Most of Mix seemed excited and pleased - I was insulted. Surely it is a minimum courtesy to post whole songs or even just one, even if they are not for download. ftlpope

OLD SCHOOL= NU SCHOOL= GREAT MUSIC!!

RE: Gratuitous free advertising (oops! that was not the title of the article - sorry!!) Sounds like a non-issue to me - what changed? R&B meant blues now it means Soul - the music is the same except the invocation of 'baby' and 'girl' are now 'baby girl' - exponentially more crass - once it was in the back seat of a car now it is the kitchen table - once song lyrics scanned (fit the music rhythmically) - now songs immitate rap so they don't. We have been reliving the whole of pop music from 1950 to 1984 approx like an extended Kurt Vonnegut 'Timequake.' Hey Dazed, Tamalaneh posted a song - good voice, OK song, new Mix artist = result (at least for the minute). ftlpope

If this discussion is not in the forum perhaps we should move it there. Yeah I just need some simple solution to one or 2 major problems with my software set up. Thanks for your interest. ftlpope

I have a PC, small Behrenger mixer, ART reverb unit, Shure mic, Cakewalk Sonar Lite, EMU 04040 soundcard, some plugins and Soundforge (cannot get my head around ASIO). I use a Yamaha 4 track cassette as a mixer to monitor my mixer and sound card for the final mix because I have never worked out how to do it with the mixer alone. Any tips about ASIO, buses and how to get the best out of this modest set up? Is 'talking shop' talking about what we have or what we have and how to use it? Thanks in anticipation of some tips. ftlpope

Hendrix IF ALIVE

Well the stuff by Hendrix that is truly great cannot be matched but I think he was drifting a bit musically at the end and even then the Experience backing was wonderfully idiosyncratic but often a bit wooden. I suspect a Hendrix/Davis experience would have been a dog's breakfast. Rarely have these cross genre meeting been rewarding. I an a case miles Davis is a whole different thing - the relentless development and anticipation of the new style and creation of super stars with the same attitude is unsurpassed. I am not sure that any rock guitarist has been so consistently challenging - how many times do we hear 'I like them until the third album.' Ultimately I think that Jimi Hendrix represented a supreme synthesis of what had gone before - no mean achievement. ftlpope
