About the last 2 songs I posted
Ok first of I just want to thank every one for listening to my music in the first place, and for Rasmuth and RSCain (hope I spelled that right) for playing them on there shows, its such a thrill.
Now first things first,, Ok.
I am not a studio muso, never will be, and I'm not the best with Timming etc I know that,
and always trying to improve, so just enjoy the songs for what they are.
Also the last 2 songs I posted " Dead on Arrival" and "Upside down" were done with my band "Soulhaven" about six years ago on a CD we did called "Dead On Arrival"
I just played the guitar, we did it in a studio up in Australia, all I did was just play guitar..
The songs I'm doing now are just for fun, If people like them cool, if not no big deal, I remixed and remixed acouple my songs just to please others but it just drove me nuts when even after the mix they still werent happy. You know what..
from now on I'm writting how I want.. and hopefully I can enjoy the song , and so can others.
I'm not trying to **** any one off but this whole timming thing or too much this or that got me down and I didnt play for a week. I dont want to go through that again..
I just want to enjoy my music for what it is.
I'm not Joe Satriani, or Steve Vai, or any one else
I'm Jason W Ramsay (Milo) and thats all that matters ..
I can understand pleasing yourself with your music, but I can't understand not wanting to improve one's self in the area of your art.
There seems to be some kind of thought group that thinks that for anyone to be an independent artist, that things like timing, tuning, performance, and recording technique are not important.
I wouldn't give a rat's **** if no one but myself ever heard anything I record,I would still want to make it sound the best I can for my self.
That being said,if people offer advice that would take someone out of their rut,and that person would rather stay in the rut where they are comfortable instead of changing something to try to improve themselves,
because they do not want to try something new, then I say,"Enjoy yourself".
I just don't understand the mindset that thinks "If I'm independent,I can put out whatever I want to,and damn the quality".
While we do not,nor have ever claimed to,know all there is to know about music,(who the **** does ???), we will always strive to put out the best sounding material that we are capable of doing.
If it's the best that you can do,it's the best that you can do.
I do have to agree with Trev,be careful throwing out the water, and jusr because people applaud a bulletin like this, doesn't make this thinking any more correct than not. The day that PYRAMIS or myself stop striving for improvement in our music, will be the day I tell the doc to pull the plug and let me die peacefully.
Peace,
Tsargoth
Hey Jason,
First off well done on coming to a point were you realise trying to please everyone is a waste of fucking time ...
That said its often wise to listen to a criticism - as much of a pain in the **** as it may be ... getting told how great your stuff all the time can be as bad , if not worse than people criticising. For the most part I think the spirit that people offer advice around here is usually good natured.
There are a lot of people round with a lot of experience and a willingness to share their knowledge , get a balance and dont take the criticism to heart is all Id say. I come from a town of small minded shits that cant give each other credit for squat.... mainly because everyone reacts so badly to getting their egos bruised, take it on the chin and always try and improve for no one but yourself... but dont throw the baby out with the bath water.
A lot of my stuff is very middle of the road, or just rubbish, some of it Im proud of , mostly though Im honest with myself and say its in the creating that I enjoy it most and dont expect to blow anyone away.
Best of luck.
Trev
Well said mate.
The internet gurus kill more than they nurture.
I have just finished an album where I tried to please everyone and find that it hasn't pleased me,and therein is the lesson.
Best wishes for your future music, and no matter what others say,the song remains the same.
Nigel.
I'll drink to that.. cheers..
Amen brother! You only live once. Have fun!!!
