Thank you so much Yvonne. I'm in total agreement as far as Gerald goes.
Typically, when I write I'll hear the thing being sung in some fairly specific voice. The voice varies depending on the kind of song. Unfortunately - that voice is never my own. Gerald matches up very closely to one of the voices I hear (the voices ... the voices ... they're calling me ...). This is another one where he stayed pretty true to the original melody. The Bridesmaids things that I do are (in my mind) demos for when I find the right singer. At that point I'll taylor the song to the singer. The various versions of Sleeping While The River Runs that I've posted here demonstrate that process.
I wrote this song just before our first son, Michael, was born. But it's to both of my kids. I still feel the same way about them, and they'll both be off at college next year. Don't know what I'm gonna do with myself.
Gordon the bass player suggested the middle passing chord at the beginning of each verse. Cool suggestion.
Thanks Gary. I'll return the favor. Thanks to you too Ron.
Heard a track of yours on Doug's show tonight and had to follow your page!
Cool jazzy blues number. Consumate playing and excellent production
