I actually started off singing an octave lower, but didn't like the vibe, and re-did it up there. Darn good thing it wasn't any higher or I'd have had to re-record everything at a lower pitch. (That'll teach me to do the vox last .... 
Really nice acoustic sound. And the whole atmosphere of the song and the lyrics work really nicely.
