I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about Review Ettiquette 101. What is Review Ettiquette you ask? I am so glad you asked!!

I just wanted to remind people that if you are getting reviews on your songs, return the favor and review one of their songs. On every artist page it shows how many Reviews you have written and how many you have received. Trust me, people are going to start paying attention to those numbers. If you have received 40 song reviews and have written one, that is an easy indicator that you will not be returning the favor. I know I have a tendancy to walk away from those artists regardless of how well I like their songs. If I am doing it, you can bet others are as well.

It is not mandatory that you review songs on this site so do not get the wrong idea. I am just saying if you want reviews, do some reviews. It is a pretty simple concept really.

Also I am not sure if everyone has had a chance to visit the Forum but please stop by and say hello!

Dazed

Well............I couldn't agree more. BUT!!! Personally, I just enjoy the opportunity to express my feelings to an artist. You know, it's also nice to see that people DO appreciate the time you take to listen and write. Even a one liner is a nice compliment. Sure, I like to get reviews, it does my heart good. The old MIX saying...Hear and Be Heard applies. I always loved that expression. Anyway, as I've expressed in the past......I love to listen as much as play. I've always been a BIG consumer of music. I have now, 5 IMS CD's and I'll tell ya.......They are ALL GREAT LISTENING. Ain't nothing "Indie" about 'em.............just GREAT LISTENING! :-)

Steve -- You're absolutely right, in that (for a number of reasons) some folks enjoy listening to songs others have posted here. Not everyone has a home recording system, for example.

Honestly, I don't even look at how many reviews someone has written vs. those they received. It really doesn't matter to me, although I do see Dazed's point. I think the "better to give than to receive" comment sums it up. But there does seem to be a relationship between the two, and I have received a lot more comments about my songs since I started getting more involved with the music posted here.

Guess I'll stop here, and go listen to a few songs. lol

Just copy and paste the text from the forum to the artist page. you know for a lot of people 1 for 1 reviews will be tough. We all know that. I just feel if you have 50 reviews received and 2 that you have written, something is wrong. You obviousy are taking the time to read 50 reviews lol.

I must say that I am guilty of not doing many reviews. Question - I have posted reviews on the forum thread for that particular song, but must it be posted on the Artist Page for it to show in the stats?

I know it is a two-way street, for certain, and I was remiss in not spinning and reviewing the songs being posted. But I made the effort to try and give a listen to the new material, and to check out some of the new and featured artists on any given day. The first thing I discovered was how much I had been missing -- there is such a wealth of talent here, it still blows me away.

The kick in return is in receiving comments back, especially in the form of reviews from the folks here. So, yes, it is a two-way street, and I welcome the reviews (hell, I look forward to them) as much as I enjoy listening to each new tune.

Also, I would like to thank all of the people on iMS who are doing reviews. We all want our music heard. We all want feedback, good or bad. So to those of you that are doing this we thank you!

I agree. That's one of the reasons that I don't do more reviews on this site. What really blows my mind is when I review someone's material, and then receive a private message saying "Thanks".
Instead of taking the time to send that message, the best way to say "Thanks" would have been to have taken the time to listen to our material and write a review in return. How much more trouble would it be to write a review instead of sending a message?
Then,on the other hand, you have the "great artist's syndrome",where people act like it's their right to be reviewed, simply because they are so good.
Just use "people skills" when it comes to returning the favor of a review. Then again, maybe that's why there are so many solo artists in independent music: they have no "people skills",and aren't in a band because no one can put up with them.(I know that's not true of the majority !).
Peace,
Tsargoth

Well guys, you know that all of us old Mixposure hands have mucho experience with doing reviews.
LOL Reaper,I've noticed that exact same thing.Maybe they are on their page admiring themselves, instead of reviewing, communicating, networking, and meeting new friends who can help them grow ?
I know,I don't get it either.
Most of the old crowd from Mix do have the common decency to return a review with a review,(reach-around-syndrome?),so maybe we did learn some manners over there !
I think that it's probably more or less "growing pains" that this site is going through.
I see a lot of bands and artists on here I've never seen on any other sites, and hopefully the situation will improve once they realize that this is a community of musicians, and that to get respect, you have to show respect.
Like this one cat.Never heard of him,but when I went to his page to hear his tunes.I liked them and added PYRAMIS to his page as a friend.
I get this over-the-top superego private note, welcoming me to their "fanwagon"!
Come on,we are not so much "fans" on here,as we are musicians supporting each other in our struggle to improve both our music and our selves.
I say,"Dispense with the effing egos, let your hair down, and just be a real person".
Let's face it,no one on here is of "Star-Status" !!!,(with the possible exception of Steve).
Peace,
Tsargoth

It is my hope that posting this, which I will also include the next site email, people will step up. I know it is the Holiday Season but I agree with you Tsargoth. If you have time to send a PM, you have time to do a review!!
