well my speed test to Dallas is:
the ping could be a slight problem if i was broadcasting but the fact that my upload speed is 4x whats needed there wouldn't be any problem
(Just doing this to show people what they should do to see if they could probably DJ with ease, but like you said, you wont know till they test)
I tested it over the weekend and everything worked. Very limited testing though lol.
It's cool Wiz. I just did not want anyone to get the wrong idea. I loved having you guys here. I was sad to see you pull out. There were only a few complaints and most of those people have moved on. The others just did not go back in which is fine. Personally the language never botherd me. If it got rediculous I just idled hehe.
As for the server I think it is in Dallas.
Just wondering as well.. are you going to simulcast a hifi and lofi stream or is IMS radio going to be strictly hifi?

And no no one got booted... but i figured if people didn't want us swearing and IMS is more of a family friendly site you wouldn't want anyone swearing on IMS.. you definitly wouldn't have some of the content we have on our shows.. or maybe you would, its your site, but i just figured that language and content was a big issue on ims. At least for the DJ's who were actually on air.
Wiz - who got booted? Did anyone even get warned? I was the only one who could boot anyone and I sure did not boot anyone from chat. As for cussing complaints, most of those people have left iMS so no big deal there anymore.
People have choices. If they do not like the program, they do not have to listen to it. Many people hated Howard Stern but he still had a huge market share. People either listened to him or not. The same is true for Nexus, iMS and Serious Music's show. The only concern I had was when we had minors in the chat. You, Ras and I discussed that and we were all in agreement. Too many stories on Dateline about predators lol. I did not want iMS to be featured for that hehe.
As for iMS Radio, the server we are on has 8 Xeon Processors and 16GB of RAM. The pipes are also huge so throughput will not be an issue. The owner currently runs at 320k using 250-350GB of bandwidth a month with no issues. I think we will be fine at 192k but we will only know once we start testing.

Well alot of people on IMS complained about the language on NEXUS so i think the IMS shows are going to have to be pretty clean.

for a 192kbps show you need a stable 24kilobytes per ssecond (250KiloBITS) upload [though thats really cutting it fine, any blips in your speed would bump you off air briefly], and a ping to wherever the server is of under 100ms - now if dazed can tell you where his server is based you can do a speed test from www.speedtest.net to close to where his server is, remember its your UPLOAD speed that matters not your download.
Realistically you need to be smashing these speeds and have a really descent PC spec.. just look at the many dj requests i have posted on nexus, ims, mix, sc and other places round the web with our minumum requirements... you'll need about the same but a better connection to broadcast on IMS radio.
Nigel - you can paste the url into winamp as well. I find the easiest thing to do is open my computer > tools > folder options > file types > find the PLS extension and set it to open with winamp or whatever audio player you want that supports PLS. I use iTunes personally.

Milo - No different than Nexus. I think you had your set to open with iTunes. So as long as the *.pls extension is set to open with iTunes, Winamp or any other player that supports it, you should be all set.

We hope to be on the air in two weeks. I am still waiting to see who sends us some audio of an example of their show. This weekend I would like to make sure everyone can connect and be "live" ok.
I guess any way to get your stuff heard is good.
