Does anyone care? I was never much of an REM fan and in all honesty I thought the lead singer killed himself years ago. Oh wait that was INXS.

So is anyone crying themselves to sleep over this? :)

A cousin introduced me to REM and Nirvana at the same time in the early 90's. Coinciding with that 20th anniversary seems ironic to me as I've always associated the two. I was surprised to later learn how much respect they had for each other. Nightswimming is my favorite song which I only rediscovered this year by chance and it affected me greatly for personal reasons. Not a big fan or anything but I do like some of their music. As time goes by maybe I'll find myself digging into the back catalog for inspiration. They had a good run and I'd certainly rather go to a reunion tour of theirs than say the 30th or 40th one for a knockoff version of Kiss.

...well it did go to show ya that you could have a really shitty guitarist and still make it...

Couple of three of their songs liked, nothing more than that.
I think the lead singer fell foul to his own image of himself.

No worries, they'll have a fabulous reunion, tour and album to get rich from a couple of years down the road.

I've not listened to much of REM's music except the three or so hits they've had. So in that respect I'm not a fan but I would be more than happy to have a successful 31 year musical career as they have enjoyed. I have to tip my hat to them for living the dream. I'm sure they will continue to reap the fruits of their labor and creativity for years to come. Bye REM......it's the end of the world as they know it.

Crikey I bought the first 6 or so albums - some really powerful songs but like every band, one loses interest (except in Bob Pollard we trust that is). Am I the only one who liked them? ftlpope
