(The Winnipeg Free Press published an<a href="http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-life/entertainment/music/were-begging-you-mr-bettman-no-nickelback-128518798.html" target="_blank"> open letter </a>to the National Hockey League in August when word spread that Nickelback would play at its Face-Off festival.)</p><p>The band is reportedly slated to perform during halftime at Ford Field, when the Lions take on the Green Bay Packers Thanksgiving Day. But a whole lot of Lions fans/Nickelback haters have signed an <a href="http://www.change.org/petitions/the-detroit-lions-replace-nickelback-as-the-halftime-show-for-the-thanksgiving-game" target="_blank">online petition</a> begging the National Football League to reconsider.</p><p>As of the time of this post on Thursday, more than 9,500 people had signed the virtual petition, citing:</p><p>“This game is nationally televised, do we really want the rest of the US to associate Detroit with Nickelback? … Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions? This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs.”</p><p>One person who signed the petition wrote, “I'd rather drink bleach than listen to Nickelback and have them associated with Detroit.”</p><p>And here’s a fun fact: Nickelback is one of the worst bands you can admit to liking on a first date, <a href="http://gunshyassassin.com/news/dating-site-discovers-nickelback-universally-hated/" target="_blank">according to a U.K. dating site.</a></p><p>But any press is good press, right? Nickelback’s new album, “Here and Now,” drops November 21.</p>

Yeah...gotta say I'm a fan of Nickleback! But what the hell do I know! I'm Canadian eh! lol! You gotta give it to then for there huge sound! I think they have some of the coolest guitar chops! But eh! I'm a fan of large guitar tones no matter who it it! As I always say...play it pround and play it loud!!

Nickleback is a fine band but I can take or leave them. They have earned the right to perform where ever they are booked.....go get a drink during the half time show if you don't like them.......personally I think they should have booked Mitch Rider and The Detroit Wheels.....are they still alive? Lol. It's all good PR anyway and there's $$ to be made........ Maybe Nickleback should cover "Devil with the blue dress, blue dress on" for the show......

I love Nickleback's patented sound...the bass drum...the sub bass freq's that the bass player pushes out..the guitars that sound like they are spread over 56 channels on the console (probably are) lol. Chad, does drive a Lamborghini, so he can't be all that bad...
Good thing it wasn't justin bieber heading the venue....he'd only pregnate strange women waiting in the shadows....
Kid rock would have been a better choice for the motor city venue....

Nigel may be correct, it wouldn't be the first time some PR dept did something controversial just to generate publicity.

I was hearing about this on the radio last week and thought I would post it. I have to admit I am not a Nickelback fan but I thought this was a bit harsh. I am not a huge rap fan and given the choice of Eminem or Nickelback, it would take me awhile to figure out which I would rather sit through.
