So we are now about a week in and I just wanted to touch base with everyone. I have started to add in some of the old site feeatures. You will notice a Radio Link in the menu with Podcast and Stream Links. I also added in Page Views and Lyrics to the artist pages. I will try and get to Song Review Counts added soon.
I have been asked, Why did you Change The Site? The simple reason is that the code on the old site was several years old. When we wanted to add new features, it required the developrs to make changes in multiple areas and was time consuming. The new site pretty much sets us up for the next several years. The old site was not built in a day and for those f you that were around in the beginning, you saw changes all of the time. This will be no different.
One of the new features you will see is Foxy Cart. One of the issues we were faced with on the old site is not everyone likes paypal. So people wanted to buy artists music but did not, or should I say would not, use paypal. Foxy Cart was an easy way to integrate with the site and allow users, from pretty much any country, the ability to purchase your songs, cd's, t-shirts and any other merchandise you would like to sell on your page. if you click on the link on your page, you obviously get a lot of feature rich reporting.
What I would like to ask is what features from the old site would you like to see on the new version? One of my top priorities is getting a Facebook App up and running. I would also like to see some new audio players that are a little cooler. So what do you guys want to see?

Yes, 25 songs is much better. Thank you. I do like DCDs' suggestion at listing the Album with its own songs, but I imagine that's another branch on the tree to make....I really did like that about the old site.
Perhaps shrinking the image size and font sizes of the songs titles and info, to better condense the page more??

Todd, maybe the answer would be to have "albums" presented on the song page with just a listing of the songs. Perhaps a couple of "featured songs" programed on the initial song page? If they want to hear the other songs they choose an album which takes them to a song page of that album?
Please remember, I am one of those guys that never figured out how to program my VCR yet alone such a computer program. Just thinking out loud here Todd.

What did you have in mind for collabs? We typically post a blog but I really like the idea of doing something else. What did you have in mind?
I could do something like add a drop down for what you are looking for ie. singer, bass, keys vocals but that assumes you are posting the tune. I am open for ideas!

I really, really like the additional songs that show up on one's music page. I have no knowledge of the ins and outs of page loading speed etc. but I noticed a slight slowdown loading but nothing unpleasant so far.
Ability to adjust song order is the only major thing I still long for.

Nice! Wow you move fast...Looks great! I've also noticed the huge increase in speed of the whole site. You are doing a fantastic job. This venture has become a great success, appreciate all your hard work.
I changed the song page to show 25 per instead of 6. Is that better?
right now they are sorting by updated date. We will have the ability to sort next week I believe.
I'm not sure if someone has asked this, but I did a search and came up empty. So with the control panel gone is there a way to re-arrange how songs show up on the audio page?
Hey Cooter - You hit it on the head. When I run tests now the main page is faster than 87% of the sites tested. Before, 87% of all sites were faster than we were.
With the new server and they way it is configured, we seem to be running very smooth. I would like to keep it this way!

I just now notice what you mentioned below about the new songs appearing on the home page. The way it's set up now, with the new songs under music (something I realize was available before) is fine with me. If adding the new tunes to the front page slows it down, then - speaking only for me - no need to. I'm starting to enjoy using the site again, since it doesn't involve long waits.

Todd, I notice you have requested for anyone with the SOTW or AOTM to let you know if anything isn't correct yet. I have a Song Of The Week banner on my page, but I have never had a Song Of The Week. I was Artist Of The Month, but that banner is not there. I was going to wait awhile till more of the dust settled for you before saying anything, but since you asked, there ya go, good sir.

The field I was referring to for each song, I believe was just labeled "info" on the old site. That is where I would describe who did what on the song, it's history, sometimes it's lyrical story etc. Thanks
I just uploaded 2 files to your page. One in Mac FF and one in Mac Safari so it appears to be working ok and they play fine for me. You might be having a slight internet connection issue.
Everyone should now be listed in the directory.
Audio Sort will be coming. Right now it will resort by updated_date
I agree 6 songs is short and will change that to a larger number. The problem is some people have a ton of tunes and not all on one page is feasible. The load times would be long.
Brian I have run multiple tests and all is working. what browser /file type are you using.
Doc what fields specifically? I was trying to cut down on how much "bloat" we have.

I really like the streamlining you've done here. The look and feel is very nice. That said, I really miss the way the 'music' page was in list form. The now 'Audio' page is very unattractive, only shows 6 songs at a time, does not show any albums and the songs contained in. My request is to bring back the 'Music' page as it was before. On my main profile page, there is no player anymore and there is just a big hole of nothingness next to my pic.
Two primary concerns I have about changes so far are 1. on the old site the song information category under each song was very important to me. I hope that information was not "lost" and that it will show up again for each song. 2. It is extremely important to me that we be able to change our personal site song orders at will. When I use Mix for promotions etc. this is essential to me.
Since lyrics were not present I re uploaded lyrics for each song. I hope this was a smart thing to do.

From what I remember, you can modify an existing song, create an album and then add other songs to it by modifying it. Then if you click the album name, you will see all songs of that album listed and can be played.
When an album is created, where does it show up? Someone posted they had created an album. I went to their page and couldn't find the album. I saw songs that were on the album but they weren't grouped together. How does the album function work exactly?

Yes Dazed, hit the site with the built in Android 4.2.2 browser and worked fine with the exception of chat and the chat player. Was really responsive, the audio players for the artists worked great over 3G and 4G. I am not fond of mobile pages but they all worked fine and, as I said, were responsive. Now how about that TuneIn radio player? He! He!
I' gonna' go out on a limb here and say I am really liking the new changes. (no I am not just sucking up to the boss either
There's still a ways to go but this time I think Dazed went out of his way to retain the "look and feel" of the old site while making it more attractive and easier to use for all of the cool new artists joining up. I think after the bugs (like comments, song info, PMs, and stuff) get ironed out over the next couple of weeks folks are gonna' LOVE some of the new features and I, for one, don't miss the old control panel at ALL. Also the site is MUCH faster. Keep it rockin folks!

Yes, I see the new tunes are appearing now, Linda. Way cool! And I also notice that if you click the main Music tab, not one of the drop-downs, the newest tunes *are* the default. At least the times I have clicked it.
About the "Follow"... it takes me to a page that says the account is private. I have looked and looked, and cannot find the/a follow button on that page. I have no trouble with non private accounts.
Also, when looking at my friends/followers, I can only view the first page. I tried the arrow, and the drop-down page numbers. Each time the page refreshes, it's still the first page.
Slowly but surely, it's getting there, Dazed.

The awards for song of the week and artist of the month have been added in a few days ago. It was a manual process so if I missed anyone please let me know. Brian I added you back in.
As for not appearing in the dir, well you do but not all the time. That makes no sense I know. You can search for anyone by name. However if you look you will see 12 artists per page x 100 rows or 1,200 artists displayed. The query is returning only 1200 artists just due to the size of returning 9000 artists. It is a system drain. I am looking in to a way of doing it better. It would be nice if we could cache that at like 24 hours so it would take new members 24 hours to appear.

Mach, Thanks for the reply. That test worked, but only because I found an old message. There's a tab on my page that says message & that was what I was trying to use to find you & others.. That's where I was making the mistake. Haven't figured out what that is for yet.. (LoL)But I found the regular inbox today.. In it's normal spot.. Go figure.. hehe
I also did another Mach search with that little magnifying glass in the upper left corner on the main page.. I found that you DO exist..
One other question about the "Follow"? How do I "Follow" people who were friends before the change over, who have private accounts? I went to my friends (on my artist page), started going down the list, and discovered I cannot get to their account to do so, even though they still show as following me.
Also, how do I remove that timeline stuff from my artist page?
I know the kinks will be worked out, Dazed. And I know you have tons going on with this change. And I certainly appreciate all you do, good sir.
I really miss the newly uploaded tunes on the front page.
Heck, I am missing the new tunes altogether. Going to find them from the music tab shows only one tune. The next page shows the same 1 tune. Third and 4th pages, the same. At the 5th page there are 2 tunes - the same as the previous pages + 1. On the 6th page, back to only 1 tune, the one added on the 5th page.
Some folks are still adding tunes, aren't they?

As for the security question, it prevents spamming. We used to get some idiot recruiting for his "label" from Nigeria and this just makes it impossible for them.
make sure when you search, click the user that shows up. It looks like it is case specific. I will look into that because either way should be acceptable.

Linda currently you can only send messages to people you follow and I believe people who follow you. This is just a security measure and I believe follows the same model as Twitter.
