It is with great sadness
It is with great sadness I announce the passing of Gene Smith also known as DaddyRabbit . Gene was one of my favorite DJ's on Mix simply because we had the same musical taste. Gene liked high energy rock and constantly scoured Mixposure to find artists that fit that style. Aside from being a dj on Mixposure, Gene was also a friend that helped me run Mixposure. He was a great resource for me to lean on when I had site concerns.
I guess when you run a music site for as long as Mixposure has been around, this happens but it is something that I will never get used to. We have lost some great musicians and friends over the years and it is a constant reminder of how short life is. This is why I tell people do not settle in life. You only get one chance in this world so make it count.
Thanks for being a friend Gene. You will be missed.
Todd
I've only learned today of Gene Smith's passing and am shocked and terribly saddened. Gene was a true gentleman and a good friend to me in my earliest days at Mixposure. He was always available to sort our techinical problems and was a great listener when discussing lifes many ups and downs. I always had fun with him and loved to make a crack or two at his expense, something I think he came to enjoy... I wrote this tribute song to him when he once again decided to rename his radio... I will miss him and extent my condolences to his family and many, many friends. https://www.mixposure.com/the-truevulgarians/audio/20898/the-ballad-of-dj-gene-host-with-the-most-ft-david-c-deal
I love my Breedlove acoustic guitar that Gene encouraged me to purchase. I've not regretted it one bit and I will always remember Daddy Rabbit with good thoughts whenever I play it. Gene was a huge cheer leader for the collab song "I Wanna Scream" with Dave Meredith, Joseph Rodriguez, and myself. He gave it life on his DJ shows. RIP buddy, thanks for everything and my sincere condolences go out to your family and friends.......

RIP Gene.. He always played what I liked to hear and I could always count on him to take a listen to something I was working on and give me an honest opinion. We will miss you!
You worded that so well, Todd and Larry. ::cry::
I remember a softer side of Gene. He loved not only rock 'n roll,
but he had a great fondness for softer acoustic music as well.
So many shows of his that I remember attending, and having such a wonderful time.
He had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome.
Gene was one who had talked me into becoming a Dj here years ago.. and the extensive training sessions we had together were nothing but fun. He'd tell me to "just be yourself" and you'll do fine!
I'll say it again.. the man had great patience!
I'm really going to miss this Mixposure treasure of a person.
Rest in peace my old friend.. and I just have to say.. if I knew you any better..
Well... run rabbit run!! <3
Very saddened by this news. My condolences go out to his family and friends. I always called him, GeneOooooooooo'. He was a great musician in his own right, and his DJ skills were many. He will truly be missed. R.I.P. my friend.
