Congratulations to Christina Crofts for having the Mixposure Song of the Week for July 22nd! This a great tune and you can check it out below.

Biography

As one of 7 children Christina learned early in life to paddle her own canoe. Moved by music from a very early age, Christina nagged her mum into buying her an electric guitar and amp at around 14 years of age and she messed about with chords which she taught herself by watching other players on tv etc. That was the extent of it until her early 20's when she met (and later married) Steve Crofts, who was playing guitar in a local band, and who was so impressed with her natural ability on guitar that he offered to give her guitar lessons. From then on Christina played in various cover bands in Sydney until the mid 1990's when she decided to form and front her own band, a 3 peice blues/rock cover band called 'Croftstown Traffic'.

In 2007 she decided to change tactics a little and go out under her own name with a whole batch of original new tunes, and in 2008 recorded and released her debut CD Midnight Train, which continues to be very well reviewed.

Christina is working steadily in and around Sydney and is definitely shaking up the rock and blues audiences around town.

The man who changed and, in a sense, defined my life. RIP maestro.

Doctor C

Pulled form http://jonlord.org/2012/07/16/jon-lord-has-sadly-passed-away/

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday 16th July at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family.

Jon Lord, the legendary keyboard player with Deep Purple co-wrote many of the bands legendary songs including Smoke On The Water and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career.

Best known for his Orchestral work Concerto for Group & Orchestra first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 and conducted by the renowned Malcolm Arnold, a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.

Jon’s solo work was universally acclaimed when he eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002.

Jon passes from Darkness to Light.

I read about this a few days ago and was just blown away. Some people do not see the importance of music and the effect it has on people. London will feel the effects of this from the outpouring of the music community for months to come. Truthfully they deserve the full wrath of every music lover.

I understand the time concerns and the fact that it is also a residential area. I had a water park being built close to my last house. What did I do? I moved! When you live next to a concert venue, you must have realized when buying your house, apartment or whatever you dwell in that there was going to be loud music, traffic etc.

Pulling the plug on Sir Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen in front of 65,000+ people I am surprised there was not a riot. If they would have told me to turn them off, I would have mentioned the fact that security was kind of light. Are you sure this is what you want to do?

What a bunch of idiots!!!!!

Pulled from Fox News.

LONDON – Concert organizers pulled the plug on rock stars Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney after the pair defied the sound curfew at London's Hyde Park, silencing their microphones at the tail end of the show.

Springsteen had already exceeded the 10:30 p.m. curfew by half an hour Saturday night when he welcomed McCartney on stage and the pair sang the Beatles hits "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Twist and Shout." But the microphones were turned off before they could thank the crowd, forcing them to leave the stage in silence.

A statement from concert organizer Live Nation said it was unfortunate that Springsteen's three-hour-plus performance was stopped "right at the very end," but it said that the curfew had been laid down by the authorities "in the interest of the public's health and safety."

Huge concerts in Hyde Park, a 350-acre (140-hectare) expanse of landscaped garden and parkland that abuts some of London's wealthiest neighborhoods, have increasingly caused friction between fans and the area's well-heeled residents, many of whom gripe about the late-night noise and nuisance.

With complaints on the rise, local officials have decided that as of next year, the number of concerts will be slashed from 13 to nine. Also in 2013, they plan to reduce crowd limits from 80,000 to 65,000.

Steven Van Zandt, who plays guitar in Springsteen's E-Street Band, criticized Saturday's decision as heavy-handed.

"English cops may be the only individuals left on earth that wouldn't want to hear one more from Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney!" he wrote on Twitter. "On a Saturday night! Who were we disturbing?" Finally he added: "There's no grudges to be held. Just feel bad for our great fans. ... It's some City Council stupid rule."

London's flamboyant mayor, Boris Johnson, said Sunday that the singers should have been allowed to keep going.

"It sounds to me like an excessively efficacious decision," he told London radio. "You won't get that during the Olympics. If they'd have called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!"

Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/07/15/springsteen-not-boss-in-london-curfew-cuts-short-gig-with-paul-mccartney/#ixzz20i0nnSTs

I put a major production song on my site Leap of Inspiration and I am looking for feedback on what this song may be missing I have probably 50 tracks of vocals for this song I am 50 tracks into music I have a backbeat in it now but unshure whether it needs more. You people out there in the mix community are great and know you can help me. This song is my copywrite and I am trying to put together things I have learned about mixing. No vocals have been added yet just music. I have vocals just not all mixed yet. There is space in middle of song intentional music to be added after Vocal. Thank you.

From Wikipedia -

"A musician usually plays a musical instrument, especially (although not necessarily) as a profession. Musicians can be classified by their roles in performing music and writing music. It's also a person who makes music a profession, anyone (professional or not) who's skilled in making music or performing music creatively, or one who composes, conducts, or performs music (especially instrumental music).

Musicians can be of any music style not limited to classical, orchestral or choral, and musicians can have skills in many different styles outside of their professional experience. Examples of musicians' skills are the orchestration of music, improvisation, conducting, singing, composing, arranging, and/or being an instrumentalist."

Music is constantly evolving. Styles and genres have come, had their Hayday, and gone. There has been so much music created and recorded over the past century, it really is unfathomable.

Ok, so lets break down the definition here a bit:

"A musician usually plays a musical instrument, especially (although not necessarily) as a profession. "

We are well into the 21st century here, and the newest (ok, not so new) emerging musical instrument is the computer.

"Musicians can be classified by their roles in performing music and writing music. It's also a person who makes music a profession, anyone (professional or not) who's skilled in making music or performing music creatively, or one who composes, conducts, or performs music (especially instrumental music)."

By this definition, Live performing Djs and composing Djs are musicians.

"Musicians can be of any music style not limited to classical, orchestral or choral, and musicians can have skills in many different styles outside of their professional experience. Examples of musicians' skills are the orchestration of music, improvisation, conducting, singing, composing, arranging, and/or being an instrumentalist."

By this definition, Home studio enthusyists, or ANYONE who: orchestrates loops and samples of music in arrangment, and creates sounds electronically or otherwise for musical composition ARE real musicians.

I think its high time we all accept this. Traditional musicians that play traditional instruments and sing, have their talent and skillset. As do those who create music by any means necessary have their talent and skillset as well. There is not much difference between one who strums a string or blows on a reed, bangs on something, or presses a trigger button.

Granted, their are levels of musicianship; varying from beginners to the professional. That is not my point here though. I'm just tired of most all electronic media artists who dont play a keyboard or guitar or a 'traditional' instrument saying they are not "real musicians".

I will even go as far as saying my spouse Deb, who is most certainly tone deaf, and I forbid to hum around me, is a musician. She invents her own song in her head and it just comes out naturally. If there was only a way she could capture her ideas.......maybe someone will invent the mind link to the computer someday! Can you imagine creating the music exactly as you hear it in your head for all to hear?

I write this opinion from both sides of the isle. I started as a vocalist in high school, taught myself how to play the piano by ear, (Still can't really read music) and a little guitar too. I was in a couple really good bands when I was younger, ranging from TOP 40 bar bands playing 5 hours every night, to progressive rock bands opening for major names back in the 80s and 90's. After a period stepping away from music altogether, having no instruments to play for almost 8 years, I started learning about computer DAWs and samples and loops. I found I had a talent for creating loops and samples, and after putting them out for the public to have and use, I have found a whole new world of satisfaction! When I hear a composition someone used my loops in, its actually a better feeling to me then creating a whole song of my own. The 'collab' aspect of hearing what someone else creates by the inspiration they get from a little piece of melody or sound I created is mind blowing and tickles me inside to no end.

So, if you create something that sounds good to you, and hopefully to someone else too.....no matter how you made it.....you are a "Real Musician"
